Some of you may be aware there is intent to transition some Aboriginal funding currently commissioned through PHNs directly to Aboriginal Community Control. It includes Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Services and the Integrated Team Care (Chronic Disease Care Coordination) Program. Consultations were undertaken by Ninti One Limited, in partnership with First Nations Co through 2023 and the final report for the Independent review of sector funding arrangements and service provider capability for First Nations Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Services and the Integrated Team Care Program has been published on the DoHAC website. The page also contains links to summaries of consultations that were undertaken with stakeholders and community members throughout the Review. We are interested to see how Government and PHNs respond to support an Aboriginal led approach #CommunityControl #SelfDetermination https://lnkd.in/gUrzzbzP

Trigger warning: post about suicide awareness September is suicide awareness month. 1 in 4 women with ADHD make an attempt on life. Let’s just let that hang there. Not thought about committing suicide, have tried to. And actually that figure will be larger due to the attempts not always being tracked properly. Those of us with Autism are 9x more likely to die by suicide. I have personal experience of suicide, both myself and a family member. I will be supporting Jo Lambert and #holdthehope with all my might. It’s such an important project. I will be attending the Friday 20th September in SW London and invite my friends and tribe here to join us. What do you think? Are you available and interested? My journey to the event involves travelling through central London, so happy to arrange a pick up point for anyone travelling in who gets overstimulated by trains etc and I’ll shout us a coffee or the like after (not mandatory). Please RSVP to hello@holdthehope.co.uk if you would like to join us. We’d love to see you 💜 #suicideawareness #adhd #autism #auadhd #holdthehope

I called Gov Walz, Sen Erin Murphy and Rep Melissa Hortman this morning urging them to fix a cut to critical access funding scheduled to take effect Jan. 1, 2025. PLEASE DO THE SAME! The MN Mental Health provider community, and the low income families and kids and individuals with disabilities that we serve — NEED YOUR HELP and your voice on this important topic! Today, we are joining the MN National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and other groups to make a push to call state leaders urging them to fix the upcoming rate cut and provide the much needed funding for mental health providers to do their work. 2 minutes of your time can make a world of difference! Please call: 1. MN Governor Tim Walz: 651-201-3400 2. Majority Leader Erin Murphy: 651-296-5931 3. Speaker Melissa Hortman: 651-296-4280 Message: We cannot wait to address the mental health crisis in Minnesota. We need you to raise the Health and Human Services budget target and fix the critical access rate cut this session. ✔️share your perspective as someone who works in behavioral health and to why this is important. ✔️share your perspective as someone who has been impacted by mental illness on why this is important. ✔️share your perspective as someone who cares about the health of our community and knows that cutting behavioral health care funding can lead to children and families are on months-long waitlists for services, people boarding in hospitals or languishing in jail. Providers are closing and Minnesotans are at the losing end of this lack of action by our leaders. Please share this with your networks and encourage others to contact leaders too. #mentalhealthmatters #MinnesotaMentalHealth #MentalHealthAdvocacy #MentalHealthLegislation

SAMHSA defines The Four Major Dimensions of Recovery as: 1. Health - Overcoming or managing one’s disease(s) or symptoms - for example, abstaining from use of alcohol, illicit drugs, and non-prescribed medication if one has an addiction problem- and for everyone in recovery making informed, healthy choices that support physical and emotional well-being 2. Home - Having a stable and safe place to live 3. Purpose - Conducting meaningful daily activities, such as a job, school volunteerism, family caretaking, or creative endeavors, and the independence, income, and resources to participate in society 4. Community - Having relationships and social networks that provide support, friendship, love, and hope Did you know that you can find all of this and more at a Certified Recovery Home such as Amanda's House? If this is true, something is wrong and needs to be changed in the way our current society and culture are structured: - the pandemic of loneliness. - our health system and the way we understand mental health. - the ways we connect or disconnect from each other. - our individual and societal values. - our lack of connection to nature. - the way we approach the current gender conversation and political polarization. - the stigmas around mental health. - the over-reliance on social media and false online gurus. - the speed at which we believe we have to live our lives. - our definitions of success. - the shame we experience around not meeting certain expectations. - ...among many others. Some of the above or all of them, but something needs to change. If some of you are struggling, friends or family, please don´t hesitate to reach out. I´ll always be happy to be there to listen. #worldsuicidepreventionday #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #psychology #therapy
In Australia, suicide is the leading cause of death from 15 to 44 year olds. Everyone in our community has an important role to play in preventing suicide, and as psychology professionals we can: 📝 Design accessible and effective prevention programs. 🗨️ Reduce the taboo and stigma surrounding suicide by using the right langugage. 📣 Raise awareness and improve the community's understanding of suicide, its symptoms and impacts. 📰 Work with the media in approaching stories about suicide with sympathy and best available evidence. Suicide prevention is everybody's business. If you or someone you know needs support, help is available. Call Lifeline Australia on 13 11 14, speak to a friend, or reach out to a psychologist. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay

Mission First, Fire Chief, International Speaker, Emergency Services, Disaster Medicine, Emergency Management and Crisis Leadership Speaker and Consultant
Recognizing the vital importance of addressing mental health issues head-on, the Milton Fire and Police departments have partnered to launch a new alternative Co-Response unit to give community members valuable care, support, and resources. The Co-Response Mental Health Unit is an appointment- and referral-based program in which Milton Police officers and Milton Fire Cares Community Paramedics who are trained in Crisis Intervention provide assistance to those who have had past mental health incidents. The idea is that these regular follow-ups will help the patient progress toward better mental health – a development that should help them and their families while saving time, money, and potentially lives in the long run. In addition to what’s described above, this new unit will support people with a history of overdoses as well as those who have made suicide attempts or threats. Milton’s Police and Fire departments determine on a case-by-case basis if someone is a sensible fit for this program. The team currently plan to visit patients once a month until their services are no longer beneficial. One of their main purposes is to direct people to additional useful resources, including other medical providers. This unit – which was launched without any additional funding – aligns with strategic goals articulated by both Milton’s Police and Fire departments. It comes at a time when more and more agencies nationwide are focusing on mental health challenges in the community. #MentalHealth #crisisresponse #communityparamedic

Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. This World Suicide Prevention Day the theme is "Changing the Narrative on Suicide" with the call to action "Start the Conversation" which aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides. Use these tools and resources from ACEP to help start those conversations and raise awareness in the ED.

My message for Sir Kier Starmer, the new government, and all newly elected or re-elected MPs: First of all, congratulations! Secondly, we are in a mental health emergency. - In 2023 there were 5,579 registered suicides (ONS). - 1 in five young people have a mental health problem today (Mind). - Waiting lists for support are at an all time high. The time has come to fund the early mental health support hubs and place Mental Health Support Teams in 100% of schools. There must be reforms to the Mental Health Act, as well as restructuring of mental health hospitals. But, most importantly given Sir Kier’s aim for longevity, we must work on prevention. There are questions are left unanswered - how will the UK deal with the lack of trust in institutions, where 3 in five young people don’t trust politicians (YoungMinds)? There is, hopefully, lots of change to come - I’m excited to see how this pans out! #FundTheHubs #EndTheWait #mentalhealth #generalelection #election2024 #WheresBilly #youthmentalhealth
