According to a situational report on Charitable Children Institutions (CCIs), disability has been identified as a significant factor contributing to the admission of children into these facilities. Among the challenges observed, the reintegration of children with disabilities, particularly those with albinism, remains a complex issue due to several contributing factors. These include societal discrimination, stigma, and ostracization; limited access to inclusive education and healthcare services; the risk or fear of ritual attacks; and the tendency of families to relinquish caregiving responsibilities, viewing them as a burden. VICTORY CHILD EMPOWERMENT is actively addressing these challenges by creating awareness to transform community attitudes towards the care of children with albinism. The organization engages stakeholders in meaningful conversations to promote progressive social protection support, strengthens child protection systems, and fosters peer-to-peer learning initiatives within Kisii County. These efforts aim to build a supportive and inclusive environment for children with albinism, ensuring their well-being and acceptance within society.

Children often find themselves in Charitable Children’s Institutions (CCIs) for various reasons, many of which could be addressed through robust gatekeeping mechanisms and the promotion of strong family values. However, when children transition out of CCIs during their youth, they frequently struggle to integrate into their communities. Among the challenges they face are emotional and psychological difficulties, limited life skills, educational barriers, and challenges with cultural and social reintegration. To ensure a smooth transition for care leavers, VICTORY CHILD EMPOWERMENT collaborates closely with relevant CCIs and government departments to support young adults in leaving institutional care responsibly and equipping them to thrive in their communities. Currently, 35 care leavers have benefited from pre-transition preparation programs, mentorship, counseling, aftercare services, and advocacy efforts aimed at creating awareness of the importance of family-based care. As an organization, we remain committed to partnering with like-minded organizations to foster a positive environment where children can flourish while emphasizing the critical role of family in their growth and development. @Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) @Child i foundation@Family for every child@WezaCare Solutions@Hope and Homes for Children@Martin James Foundation@Child Frontiers

...from the Diary of a Tax Advisor and MAD-Aid Trustee... 🌍 National Disability Day 2024: What a difference can £1 donation make? BIG DIFFERENCE!!! 🌟 https://lnkd.in/e29uY9Ai 📢 Today, on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we honour the global developments toward equality and inclusion. From Franklin D. Roosevelt’s leadership as the first U.S. president with a disability in 1933, to the establishment of this day by the United Nations in 1992, progress has been significant. Yet, our mission continues, but there is still work to be done. 🙁 Unfortunately, we still have a healthcare system in which persons with disabilities have to adapt to the existing system. But it is time that we go further trying to adapt the system to fit around disability. For the past 12 years, Victoria Dunford, BEM and the MAD-Aid team have been on the front lines, transforming lives of people with disabilities in Moldova. Their mission: to deliver quality services and facilities for people with disabilities. Recently, their focus has shifted to an urgent need—improving the conditions in Moldova’s hospitals. 🛠️ Last year, MAD-AID began the capital restoration of the country’s main Children's Hospital. This facility is a lifeline for mothers and children facing critical and life-threatening conditions. At the moment the team is working hard to repair two wards that are in desperate need of completion, and time is running out. 🎯 The goal is to finish this part of the long-term project by the end of the year, and we need your help. ‼️ Just £1 per month can make a world of DIFFERENCE. Together, we can provide life-saving care and a brighter future for Moldova’s children. 💙 Join us in this mission. Donate today to support MAD-AID’s incredible work and help us turn hope into action. https://lnkd.in/eQ49ueCv

We head into a new year with a continuing commitment to vulnerable children, and that includes helping create communities where a child's race will never predict their life outcomes. Child Advocates launched racial equity workshops nearly 15 years ago to address the disproportionality of Black and brown children and youth in the child welfare system. Today, our workshop is titled "Interrupting Racism for Children," and it has expanded to help prevent racism in communities across Indiana. Thousands of people from every racial background have attended. And here is what some of them say: ⭐“This workshop really teaches everyone how to unlearn the stereotypes about other races because every bias we have is room for racism to keep growing.” ⭐"This workshop creates safe spaces for people to find common ground and shared purpose on behalf of children.” ⭐“I have never experienced a conversation about racism that both acknowledged the truth of everyone’s experience and stayed focused on our common purpose and the goal of solidarity. It was both refreshing and informative." Be a child advocate. You can help us build communities where every child has an equal and equitable opportunity to succeed. Support our workshops and our children's future. Earlier this year CBM Australia hosted a training on effective disability inclusion. It was a meaningful course which shared key insights into genuine disability inclusion for people, with particular reference to inclusion within international and community development, as well as humanitarian aid and disaster relief / disaster risk reduction programming. There was an emphasis placed on the most invisible impairments being considered whilst maintaining an intersectional focus during analysis. We discussed what constitutes living with a disability; that an impairment in conjunction with barriers equals a disability, increasing risk. However, an impairment in conjunction with an enabler/s equals resilience, safety and protection. The general logistics of programming were assessed as to why people living with a disability often don’t turn up to programs, considering insufficient income to sacrifice at the time during the program, limited access to venues and hindered meaningful process for participation. Key learnings included: - Having the process geared towards the outcome of the program is critical for effective inclusion and cohesion. - Often people who go through the consultation phase within programming receive little back from the program itself. - Attitudinal barriers are the hardest to challenge. - Accessibility benefits everyone; apply ‘universal design’. - Accessibility addresses everyone’s needs, whereas reasonable accomodation is more focused on a specific individual. - Barriers are intersectional. - Budgeting is essential, with typically 3-5% being dedicated to enable accessibility at a minimum; e.g. a bus, microphones, sign interpreter. - People living with a disability are the most likely to be left out of disaster preparation, as well as rebuilding typically omits accessibility. - Quality data, both qualitative and quantitative, are needed for success. - People have evolving capacities and can be restricted if they are isolated. I have developed a stronger comprehension of disability inclusion as a result of undertaking this training and am looking forward to applying critical analysis within humanitarian and disaster relief. #training #disabilitytraining #inclusion #disabilityinclusion #programming #disabilityinclusionwithinprogramming #disability #accessibility #humanitarianaid #internationaldevelopment #communitydevelopment #disasterrelief #disasterriskreduction #disasterplanning #disasterpreparedness #cbm #CBM #christianblindmission #intersectionality #barriers #universaldesign https://lnkd.in/gg9qzNpk

Yesterday, we visited the *Katalemwa Cheshire Home for Rehabilitation Services*, a place that gives Children with various disabilities a chance at living dignified and productive lives, and it was great to realize that parents and their children, even with everything they are going through, are able to still have a smile on their faces and appreciate life. Doing this kind of charitable work: 1. Fosters empathy and compassion: Assisting those in need encourages understanding and kindness. 2. Builds stronger communities: Lending a hand strengthens social bonds and promotes unity. 3. Inspires positive change: Helping others sets an example, encouraging others to do the same. 4. Fosters personal growth: Giving back provides new perspectives, skills, and a sense of purpose. 5. Builds social responsibility: Sharing resources acknowledges our interconnectedness. 6. Improves mental and physical health: Assisting others has been linked to reduced stress and increased well-being. 7. Encourages gratitude: Focusing on others' needs helps appreciate our own blessings. 8. Promotes equality: Supporting marginalized or disadvantaged groups fights social injustice. 9. Shows moral obligation: Many believe helping those in need is a fundamental human duty. Helping the needy creates a ripple effect of kindness, benefiting individuals, communities, and society as a whole. #KatalemwaChesireHomeforRehabilitationServices# #ShreeSahajanandSchoolUganda
