A new report from my colleagues within the McKinsey Institute for Black Economic Mobility explores differences in the economic, social, and physical well-being of Black residents across the US based on the type of community in which they live. We also discuss interventions across community profiles that could benefit all US residents while setting the stage for more meaningful progress toward racial parity for Black Americans over the longer term. As we kick of Black History Month, I would like to share a new report from my colleagues within the McKinsey Institute for Black Economic Mobility that explores differences in the economic, social, and physical well-being of Black residents across the US based on the type of community in which they live. They also discuss interventions across community profiles that could benefit all US residents while setting the stage for more meaningful progress toward racial parity for Black Americans over the longer term. Mapping equity gaps at the local level offers insight into how equity outcomes for Black residents vary across different communities in the US, while suggesting a new way for investors, companies, philanthropies, and public-sector leaders to prioritize where and how best to act to address racial disparities. Recent years have put an acute focus on racial disparities across America. However, inequities reported at the national level often fail to capture what’s happening in specific communities – whether they are stories of progress, stagnation, or even regression. Financial Therapist + Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®️)| Award Winning Thought Leader On Financial Trauma | Forbes Contributor | Speaker
It's Black History Month of course I'm going to talk about: 🔊 How existing in survival mode is a hinderance to building and growing wealth in the Black community. 🔊How educational achievement doesn't always translate to economic equality. 🔊How homeownership alone doesn't guarantee wealth due to discriminatory housing policies. 🔊How financial literacy isn't always or the only solution. 🔊 How all of these variables contribute to a unique form of financial trauma expressed in Black Americans. Duh... #moneymindset #blackhistorymonth #financialtrauma

During Black History Month, Alice Walker's quote takes on added significance as it reflects the historical and ongoing struggle for empowerment within the Black community. Throughout history, Black individuals and communities have faced systemic oppression, discrimination, and disenfranchisement. Despite these challenges, countless individuals have demonstrated remarkable resilience and strength in asserting their rights and fighting for equality. Alice Walker's quote reminds us of the importance of reframing narratives to center empowerment and agency. By acknowledging and celebrating the power within the Black community, we can inspire hope, resilience, and collective action towards a more just and equitable society. #BlackHistoryMonth is not only a time for reflection and celebration but also a call to action. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for racial justice and the need to address systemic inequities that persist today. By amplifying voices, advocating for change, and supporting efforts towards equality, we can honor the legacy of past struggles and work towards a more inclusive future. #BlackHistory

In case you missed it: A #Juneteenth message from our CEO Lenwood V Long Sr. "Earlier this year, I called for a collective recommitment to our fight for racial and economic justice. In this current environment, where there is an assault on DEI programs that threaten the progress made, our commitment to fight even harder to preserve and advance economic justice and racial equity must happen now. As members, friends and allies of The Alliance, we must stand united in our resolve to confront and dismantle the barriers that hinder progress for Black communities. Each of us must advocate for equity, justice, and inclusivity in all facets of our work and beyond. We must continue to amplify marginalized voices, challenge systemic inequalities, and champion policies that promote fairness and opportunity for all. The late Malcolm X once said, “Armed with the knowledge of our past, we can with confidence charter a course for our future.” This Juneteenth, let us honor the legacy of resilience and resistance that defines the Black experience. Let us rededicate ourselves to the pursuit of justice and equality for all. Together, we can build a future where the progress made by Black individuals and communities is not only preserved but propelled forward. Let us continue to stand strong, united in our pursuit of a more just and equitable world." Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ebAGJ97G

As we observe Black History Month, it's essential to address a stark reality for this community: Approximately 53% of Black children in the U.S. are likely to encounter a CPS investigation by the age of 18, a rate nearly double that for White children. This statistic is a sobering reminder of the inequalities faced by Black families. At PCA America, we embrace and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of African Americans, particularly in the arts, as highlighted in this year's theme. However, we also recognize the urgent need for equitable treatment and support for all families. This month, let's commit to creating a world where every child, irrespective of their background, has the opportunity to thrive. #BlackHistoryMonth2024 #ArtForChange #EquityForAll
