Dear HR Colleagues, Supervisors, and Line Managers I would like to emphasise the importance of treating interns with the same respect and professionalism that you extend to your regular employees. Just because a person is an intern in your organisation does not mean you have the right to mistreat them in any manner that pleases you. Treat Interns as Counterparts, Not Children: Interns are not children, and they should not be treated as such. Your role as a supervisor or manager is to guide them and share your experience in the respective field, not to parent them. Understand that interns are here to learn and grow, and they deserve to be treated as valuable members of the team. Provide a Positive and Supportive Environment: Interns should be given the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the organisation and to develop their skills and knowledge. Provide them with clear expectations, constructive feedback, and the resources they need to succeed. Foster an environment of mutual respect and collaboration, where interns feel valued and supported. Remember, the way you treat your interns reflects not only on your own professionalism but also on the overall culture and reputation of your organisation. Halfway through my internship at Korn Ferry, and what a journey it’s been! Here are the top three lessons I’ve learned so far ⤵️ 🌟Be Curious: Actively asking questions and seeking out diverse perspectives has allowed me to expand my knowledge of Korn Ferry, subsequently improving the quality of my work. Also, don’t forget to ask questions beyond work topics to help build stronger relationships, as not all conversations have to be work-related. 🌟Be Present: The shift to flexible work-from-home policies post-COVID has changed how we connect. As an intern, I’ve found that being physically present in the office allows me to connect with people I might not meet online. My internship with Indiana Restaurant & Lodging Association has come to an end. Now, you might be wondering, “Why share this?" Allow me to explain. It's not uncommon for interns to feel marginalized, a sentiment sadly familiar to me. Feeling undervalued, you slowly start to dismiss your ideas and lose motivation to contribute. You feel as if you’re not someone whose ideas matter or someone who can bring forth value. Perhaps it's due to your position, race, or gender. But without speaking out, your insightful perspectives go unnoticed, leading to missed opportunities for advancement and growth, the whole point of the internship. It's a perpetual cycle. In addition, studies show that 45% of female business leaders find it challenging for women to speak up in the workplace or assert themselves. As a woman of color, this statistic is even more disheartening. Recognizing this issue in workplaces, I wanted to share and emphasize the importance of embracing your voice and acknowledging your value! Regardless of your position, ethnicity, or gender, you matter! I am all for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and that is something that I will always fight for. To my fellow interns who resonate with this struggle (or anyone else navigating similar experiences), know this: there's a company out there that values and supports your success. Stay resilient but never stay stagnant! I am always open to listen to those who share these challenges, anyone is always more than welcome to reach out.

The application process was fair and demanding, with the goal of finding applicants who shared the company's values and goals while also possessing the requisite knowledge. The entire process, from submitting a detailed CV to participating in interviews, was informative. During the interviews, I was able to speak with some of the most experienced HR professionals. It was clear that they were passionate about promoting individual empowerment and business success. Throughout these chats, I gained a deep appreciation for their commitment to both their clients and workers. We addressed my monthly plans and processes as an industrial psychologist, including my learning path and responsibilities. The highlight was the opportunity to speak with the CEO Mr.Oommen Abraham, whose personal involvement and passion for my possible role made me very enthusiastic to join the team.
