⚾ Mets Victory + Philly's Big Win! 🌳 As a Flushing native & lifelong Mets fan, I'm still buzzing from our incredible win over the Phillies! The rally towels were flying, Lindor was crushing it, and NYC was electric. But while the 7 Line Army is celebrating, let's take a moment to tip our caps to another win happening in Philadelphia—this time (thankfully), off the field. 🏙️ Philly's Clean and Green Initiative is turning vacant lots into vibrant spaces, proving that when a city invests in its neighborhoods, it gets way more than just good looks. From reducing crime to improving mental health, this initiative is a game-changer. So, while the Mets advance, Philly's public policy deserves its own round of applause. 👏 It's proof that transforming communities is a team effort, whether on the diamond or in our cities. Check out my Malcom Gladwell inspired piece on how Philly (the city not Harper or Schwarber) is knocking it out of the park: https://lnkd.in/eDr2Yhwp #CleanAndGreen #UrbanRenewal #PublicPolicy #NeighborhoodPride #MentalHealthMatters #CrimeReduction #UrbanGreening #Sustainability #Mets #LGM #OMG #7LineArmy

Fascinating article on vacation commercial spaces in New York City with some great data. It also includes some of the land use policy ideas NYC is considering. Thanks for sharing Chih-Wei Hsu! It makes me think about how Los Angeles should plan to activate some of its struggling commercial corridors as the Olympics approach. With some political will, commercial corridors with vacant spaces on the Eastside and South LA can be centers of prosperity. Our neighborhoods should be examples of how we can made lemonade (economic justice) out of lemons (the pandemic). Empty spaces can be more than just another big box retailer, they can be activated by community entrepreneurs and artists who dream of having their own brick and mortar. Where possible, these vacant spaces should be shepherded into community ownership. To get it done, we'll need more than good land-use policy, we'll need a concentrated effort to recruit existing leaders and place-makers, and make sure they have resources. https://lnkd.in/gvdcQJ-r

Rather than subsidizing stadiums and kowtowing to conventioneers, #Chicago ought to be resourcing its extraordinary BIPOC artists and entrepreneurs, according to an opinion piece by PSP’s Philip Barash that was recently published in Crain's Chicago Business. They are shaping Chicago’s narrative for the next generation. They serve as global ambassadors for Chicago’s brand. And they are undoubtedly the city’s most valuable asset. In his article, Philip makes the case for celebrating and investing in Chicago’s culture-makers. He offers a counterpoint to all the pearl-clutching about Chicago’s reputational challenges. And he argues that the cities that are successfully repositioning themselves are those that recognize the assets already embedded in their communities. #opinion #cities #economicempowerment #publicsphereprojects
