Last month saw the release of Sassicaia's 2021 vintage on the primary market. Sassicaia is considered by many as the original Super Tuscan with its first vintage being bottled in 1945. In 1968, the great Giacomo Tachis took Sassicaia to new levels, adding noble Bordeaux grapes to the blend which culminated in Sassicaia winning Decanter's "Great Claret" award in 1972. Since 1972, Sassicaia and the Super Tuscan style has grown in global demand. The release of the 2021 Sassiciaia marks one of its best ever vintages. Critic scores include, 100 points by Wine Advocate, one of only three vintages to achieve this score and 98+ from Anotonio Galloni, his highest Sassicaia score ever. The 2021 release is a case study in appropriate primary market pricing. Since the release price of £1250.00 per case of six, secondary market pricing has increased to £1650.00 in a number of weeks. This is in comparison to the recent primary market trend with release pricing allowing little room for price appreciation in the short to mid term.
