The GLP-1 revolution is going to have a profound impact on our society and economy for years to come. Not only are large, multi-national companies making business decisions around their future based on GLP-1 prevalence (looking at you Nestlé ice cream), but at the member level, these drugs are becoming a broader part of our social structure. While these drugs are not "new to market", we are still in the "initial phase" of their popularity. Employers are just beginning to figure out their strategy around coverage on health plans, researchers are still weighing long term effects, and patients are seeing the initial results from a consistent regimen. The next phase is going to be the reckoning around long-term adoption. Are people going to want to use an injectable for life? Will oral pills replace the incumbents? Will new drugs come to market with long term neurological effects that could replace the need for ongoing use? We are all just beginning to grapple with these questions as popularity will inevitably plateau and manufacturers are forced to pivot. The goal around these discussions is greater societal health and a reduction in issues associated with obesity - think hypertension, diabetes, depression, arthritis, etc. We will see if the GLP-1s have that effect. These drugs have opened a new frontier and every frontier has unknown and unintended consequences; both positive and negative. As we dig further into what these latent effects will be, people will continue on their journeys and keep exploring ways to be healthier, more energetic, and with a great sense of total wellbeing. #healthcare #glp1 #pharmaceuticals #employeebenefits

The Importance of Testing for Gluconic Acid During Wet Harvests in Winery Laboratories When the grapes are plump and ripe, but the skies are overcast and rain threatens the vineyards, winemakers face a unique set of challenges. Wet harvests can be both a blessing and a curse, and the key to success lies in meticulous testing and analysis in the winery laboratory. In this article, we will explore the process and reasoning behind why testing for gluconic acid becomes crucial during wet harvests. Gluconic acid is a naturally occurring organic acid found in grapes. Its levels can fluctuate due to numerous factors, including grape maturity and disease pressure. When gluconic acid levels become excessively high, it can have negative effects on wine quality and taste. Reasoning: Quality Assessment: Monitoring gluconic acid levels is essential for assessing grape quality. Elevated levels can indicate the presence of undesirable microorganisms or spoilage, potentially affecting the wine's overall acidity and flavor. Excessive gluconic acid can dilute the flavors of the wine, making it taste less concentrated and less flavorful. This can result in a wine that lacks depth and complexity. Elevated levels of gluconic acid can sometimes indicate the presence of certain undesirable microorganisms, such as acetobacter. These bacteria can produce acetic acid (vinegar-like flavors) and spoil the wine. Therefore, when gluconic acid levels are unusually high, it may signal a potential microbial issue that needs to be addressed. Excessive gluconic acid production can sometimes indicate fermentation problems or stress on the yeast. Adjustments: Winemakers can use gluconic acid testing to make informed decisions during the winemaking process and may adjust to maintain the desired acidity levels in the final wine. In conclusion, winemakers and their laboratory teams play a critical role in navigating the complexities of wet harvests. Testing for gluconic acid provides valuable insights and empowers winemakers to make informed decisions regarding harvest timing, sorting, and winemaking techniques. This meticulous approach ensures that the wines produced during wet harvests meet the desired standards and flavor profiles, allowing them to capture the unique character of each vintage.
