🏢Indirect Cooling in High-Rise Fires: A Critical Approach to Life Safety and Firefighter Survival💦 When faced with a high-rise apartment fire, indirect cooling becomes a vital tactic in protecting both lives and property. By directing streams of water onto surfaces to cool heated gases and suppress the fire’s intensity, we can make the environment safer for both civilians and firefighters, during our recent dry-hose stretch training evolutions this week, at Firehouse. 🔥 Key Points on Indirect Cooling: • Life Safety: Reducing the fire’s heat output through indirect cooling helps to sustain life, lowering the risk for civilians trapped in upper floors. • Firefighter Safety: By cooling down high temperatures and preventing flashovers, this tactic allows firefighters to move in more safely while maintaining visibility and air quality. • Low-Pressure, High-Volume Nozzles: Utilizing nozzles with lower pressure but higher water volume ensures greater reach and control over the spread of water during indirect cooling efforts. This tactic can be especially effective in controlling heat in larger, open areas found in high-rise apartments. With the combination of low-pressure, high-volume nozzles and strategic application of indirect cooling, we can more effectively suppress high-rise fires while keeping our crews and civilians safe. #FirefighterTraining #HighRiseFire #FireSuppression #FireSafety #IndirectCooling #LifeSafety #FirefighterSafety #FirehouseTraining #NozzleTactics #HighVolumeNozzles #LowPressureNozzles #FireTactics #Firefighting #FireRescue #FireDept
