Professor at Molecular Geochemistry | Director of the STARLAB | Director of CMU -RC Innovation & Partnerships | Entrepreneur | Industry-Academia Translational Research
The #STARLAB is welcoming a new member. Dr Elza J.M. Dugamin will be working as a postdoctoral researcher to improve our understanding of #lithium #geochemistry in #brine systems using our unique #moleculargeochemical approach (and more...). During her Ph.D., Elza J.M. Dugamin worked on #lithium geochemistry. She is bringing an invaluable experience that will undoubtedly contribute to the success of this new project. For me, this new research is somehow special because it aligns with what I believe to be the future of #criticalmetals: #strategic #partnerships between #industry and #academia. This powerful combination can be the key to many #challenges our modern societies must deal with. To that regard, I will soon announce a new initiative that I will be spearheading at Central Michigan University. This research is funded by Equinor. This company understands and values the importance of #research to secure #criticalmetals sources. Swapan K. Sahoo and his talented colleagues were instrumental in making that project a reality. Together, him and I will advise Elza J.M. Dugamin in filling the #knowledge #gaps that prevent companies like Equinor to develop #sustainable #solutions to respond to the high demand of #criticalmetals like #lithium.

If you’re in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention or Goldschmidt2024, consider extending your stay for one more day to attend our session on "Novel Computational, Data-Driven, and Multiscale Approaches for Advancing Geochemistry." The session will highlight the transformative impact of data science and numerical methods in geochemistry. The presentation will showcase quantitative tools and approaches for addressing geochemical challenges across scales, from nano to macro. Come and experience science in the making! A shout out to our convener team who put this session together! Alireza Namayandeh, Alex Honeyman, Yuyang He

Geoscientists today face a growing volume of #data which offers enormous opportunities for new #scientific #discoveries, but also challenges for organising, analysing, publishing, preserving, and accessing these data. Emerging data-driven and #computational #research paradigms in #geochemistry demand that large volumes of standardised high-quality digital data are easily accessible, and #OpenData policies of funding agencies and publishers increasingly require researchers to share their data that ensure #Findability, #Accessibility, #Interoperability, and #Reusability of data (FAIR data). Today, data management is no longer just an option, but an vital component of research and #education in geochemistry. The OneGeochemistry initiative in partnership with the Geochemical Society is offering a free webinar to discuss the current data landscape and global data services, including the AuScope Geochemistry Network, EarthChem, Astromaterials Data System, DIGIS and GFZ Data Services. This webinar will provide an overview of what FAIR means for geochemical data, what data systems are available to support the management and access of FAIR data, what services they offer, and how researchers can contribute to their success. Can't wait to see you October 10th, 2024 at 15:00 AEDT! For more information visit: https://lnkd.in/g8G6px2H Meeting Link: https://lnkd.in/gGzEFkxB Passcode: 294324 Geochemical Society | AuScope

Free Webinar in less than one week!!! Today, data management is no longer just an option, but needs to be an intrinsic component of #research and #education in geochemistry! Join our very own Angus Nixon and colleagues from OneGeochemistry next week October 10th (15:00 AEDT) and learn what FAIR means for #geochemical #data, what data systems are available to support the management and access of FAIR data, what services they offer, and how researchers can contribute to their success, i.e. their #utility, #usability, and #sustainability by helping them evolve with the needs of the research #community.
