Happy Earth Science Week! 🌍 Outreach is important to us, and our team is passionate about engaging with our community to inspire the next generation of geoscientists. Recently, we had the privilege of participating in the INA19 conference, where Andrea Pardon co-hosted an exciting microscope session for around 40 enthusiastic Year 13 students 🔬. It was a fantastic opportunity to share our knowledge and spark curiosity about #coccolithophores and #foraminifera! Andrea also brought along nummulite hand specimens which were really popular.    ✨Fun fact! The ancient Egyptians created the pyramids at Giza out of nummulitic limestone. Earth Science Week, organized by The Geological Society , is all about highlighting the vital role that Earth sciences play in our lives. From understanding natural hazards to exploring sustainable energy solutions, Earth sciences are crucial for our future. 🤩 We just had an amazing #outreach session with #schools! 🎓 🤝 Engaging with the #community is an #important aspect of our life as scientists ⭐ In this #unique opportunity we were able to share with the young #people some of what we do on a #daily basis in the academic nanno-community 🔬 and the perspectives for their #professional future if they choose to be part of the nannoplankton #team 🌊 👏 We hope this enriching experience inspired them as much as it did us! #science #communiction #public #outreach #experience #school #student #professional #academia #future #environment #nano #plankton

Society Needs #Geoscience. Now, more than ever! 🌍 ⛏️ Join Viridien Geoscientist, Dr. Ellie MacInnes this Wednesday to find out how! Registration link below 👇

Dr. Ellie MacInnes' webinar on "Society Needs Geoscience. Now, more than ever." is 2 days away! Come join us! Dr. Ellie MacInnes is a leader in Geoscience Communication and in the Renewable Energy space with 20+ years experience. Currently at Viridien and in a New Business Development - Green Tech role. Moderated by our very own London AAPG YP's Energy Transition Manager Toby Alozie. Toby is currently a Product Manager at tem. A company involved with Renewable Energy, revolutionised for small businesses. WEBINAR ABSTRACT As geoscientists, we acquire a deep understanding of the subsurface and natural systems. The projects we undertake are often complex, multidisciplinary, and integrated, requiring the processing and interpretation of large datasets. To meet ambitious global climate goals, entire new low-carbon energy systems need to be developed and implemented on a large scale, along with sustainable sourcing of construction materials. This must be accomplished within a timeframe that aligns with international climate targets and increasing global energy demand. Additionally, societal acceptance of these significant changes is crucial for success. As the Energy Transition accelerates, the demand for skills and knowledge will significantly increase in the areas of Low Carbon Fuels, Critical Minerals, Carbon Storage, Geothermal Energy, Geological Hydrogen and Helium, Energy Storage, Hydrogeology, Environmental Geoscience, Geohazards and Engineering Geology. Geoscientists will have a key role in these new industries and help to find more sustainable methods and technologies to power our world. Geoscientists will also be required to support the effective communications to non-technical audiences and use our knowledge and influence to help gain social license to operate for the many different types of projects that will be needed. It is also important to remember that the Energy Transition isn’t just about decarbonization. We also need to consider security and access, environmental sustainability and economic growth and development. Being able to access clean and affordable energy is essential for economic prosperity, and while large regions of the world don’t have access, political and social instability is a risk. Here’s the reveal for last week’s mystery #foraminifera: Kurnubia palestiniensis HENSON, 1948!✨ This agglutinated foram is notably found in Jurassic sediments from the Middle East. 🌍 Distribution and Stratigraphic Range: 📅 Kimmeridgian to Tithonian of Saudi Arabia (Hughes, 1996). Also found in the Callovian to Oxfordian of Palestine, France, Morocco, Iraq, and former Yugoslavia. In Syria, it’s abundant in the Callovian, with fewer specimens in the Oxfordian, Kimmeridgian, and Tithonian. Paleoenvironment: 🌊 Back bank to lagoonal settings. Their presence might be due to wide paleoenvironmental tolerance or storm-triggered transportation as tempestites or turbidites within the intra-shelf basin biofacies. Special thanks to Viridien Project Geoscientist, Garfield de Sá, for the thin-section snaps and info! 📸🔬 Congrats to Rochelle Vaz and Lorenzo Consorti for guessing correctly! 🎉👏 Learn about our biostratigraphy services --> https://lnkd.in/e5ad7sEu #biostratigraphy #microfossils #FossilFriday
