A recent report from the NATIONAL CONFIDENTIAL ENQUIRY INTO PATIENT OUTCOME AND DEATH has emphasized the urgent need for changes in endometriosis care, advocating for it to be treated with the same seriousness as chronic conditions like diabetes. At Visana Health, this call resonates deeply. We began our journey with a focus on endometriosis, recognizing early on the gaps in care for this debilitating condition. Today, our mission has evolved to provide comprehensive, whole-person care for all women's health conditions, inspired by the belief that every aspect of a woman’s health deserves attention and dedicated support. The NCEPOD report highlights the necessity for ongoing management of endometriosis, rather than treating it as isolated episodes. This is a philosophy we’ve embedded in our care model from the start. We understand that endometriosis affects all areas of life, which is why our approach is holistic and multi-disciplinary, designed to address both physical symptoms and the broader impacts on a woman’s life. We help to reduce unnecessary surgeries while alleviating symptoms and increasing quality of life. As we continue to expand our services, our commitment to women's health remains unwavering. The insights from the NCEPOD report reinforce the importance of our work and remind us of the impact we can have on improving healthcare outcomes and quality of life for women everywhere. Everyone that works in this field, and those that care for those who suffer from #endometriosis all agree that it deserves as much attention as diabetes. There is one huge difference though, for diabetes there are marvelous diagnostics. The ability to detect your blood sugar and enact a change based upon, a sensor that you read off your cell phone is transformative. For endometriosis, we are still battling to have accepted reasonable rapid diagnostics, which will be transformative for the disease. Without appropriate early noninvasive diagnostics with high accuracy you cannot even get close to treatments or even recognizing disease enough for employers to grant appropriate time off, for schools to understand the absenteeism or to hope to control this disease before it advances to higher stages when surgery is the only option. But all is not lost. Those diagnostics do exist. It is just taking forever for them to get into the mainstream. We are fortunate enough to have the Endotest from Ziwig And the latest known as #endosure. Based upon the recent publication, within 30 minutes with a 99% accuracy you can have a non-invasive diagnosis! It is already in the UK! Www.endosure.com

AccendoWave - A Pain #Data Company Around one in ten women and people with uteruses in the UK have endometriosis. This disease causes tissue similar to the womb’s lining to grow in other places – such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes. This can cause chronic #pain, difficulty getting pregnant, organ damage and fatigue. Yet despite how common endometriosis is, people who have the disease still wait around eight years on average to be diagnosed. A Top 4 Global Health Equity Solution and Top 15 Global Remote Monitoring Company, AccendoWave, benchmarks objective brain wave pain data (specialty, gender, age) and has nine #pain databases: Emergency Department, Maternal Health, Oncology, MSK, Medical Surgical, ICU, Women, Adults, Seniors to eliminate bias, improve outcomes and reduce health care costs. If desired, AccendoWave can also create customized pain databases for partners that can be accessed on the Datavant platform.

Interesting article...Thanks Dr. Genen and other experts for your input. “Having a stable maternal mortality number versus a rising maternal mortality number is not the key issue. The primary issue is that we have maternal death rates in a developed nation that is higher compared to other wealthy countries.”
Can one data point change the lived reality of hundreds of thousands of women each year? In a new interview with Femtech World, ProgenyHealth Chief Medical Officer, Linda Genen, MD, MPH, along with a host of other experts, responds to a new study that has cast doubt on how the US maternal mortality rate is tracked. https://hubs.ly/Q02qB30_0

It takes on average 8 years for someone in the UK to get an endometriosis diagnosis. 🤯 Along with everything that comes with living with this common gynaecological condition, there can be consequences for when it comes to trying for a baby. For many they say they wish they'd known so they could freeze their eggs earlier. 🔮 🇬🇧 💰 Additionally the cost to the UK economy is £8.2billion a year in treatment, loss of work and healthcare costs. And yet only 2% of public research funding goes to women's health. 🔬 In 2024, we should be doing better. 🕐 The Government's Women's Health Strategy aims to bring down diagnosis times for endometriosis (without concrete targets). We hope that prompt diagnosis and access to timely treatment improves rapidly for women in the future. https://lnkd.in/eYfikTCF

As reported in The Times this week, thousands of women are dying unnecessarily from heart attacks due to gender bias that result in "underdiagnosis and undertreatment". This is unacceptable. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for women in the UK and globally, yet they are 50% more likely to receive incorrect initial diagnoses during heart attack presentations, leading to poorer outcomes. Dr. Nina Wilson, ABHI’s Clinical Advisor, emphasises the urgency: 💬 "Cardiovascular disease represents the largest gap in health life expectancy in England. It is imperative that we address these disparities. ABHI's cardiovascular group is dedicated to fostering collaboration across the HealthTech industry to bring forward solutions that improve outcomes for women's health. The HealthTech sector has a crucial role to play in advancing diagnostic accuracy, personalised treatment options, and ensuring equitable access to cutting-edge technologies for all." For our members keen to contribute to our efforts in health inequalities, please get in touch: enquiries@abhi.org.uk Together, we can make a meaningful difference.

congenital heart defects (CHDs) represent a significant concern due to their impact on morbidity, mortality, and healthcare resources. Here are key points highlighting the public health implications of CHDs: 1. Prevalence and Incidence: CHDs are the most common type of birth defect, affecting nearly 1% of all live births. This high prevalence necessitates ongoing monitoring and resources for early detection and management. 2. Early Detection and Screening: Early detection through prenatal screening and newborn screening (such as pulse oximetry) is crucial. These programs help identify CHDs early, allowing for timely intervention and improved outcomes. 3. Healthcare Costs: Managing CHDs can be costly due to the need for specialized care, surgeries, and long-term follow-up. Public health initiatives aim to optimize resource allocation and reduce financial burdens on families and healthcare systems. 4. Access to Care: Ensuring equitable access to specialized cardiac care is essential. Disparities in access can lead to differences in outcomes based on socioeconomic status, geographic location, and ethnicity. 5. Education and Awareness: Public health campaigns can raise awareness about CHDs, encouraging early prenatal care, educating about risk factors, and promoting healthy behaviors during pregnancy. 6. Support Services: Providing support for affected families, including psychological support and resources for managing chronic conditions, is a key public health goal. Support groups and counseling can improve the quality of life for patients and families. 7. Research and Data Collection: Public health efforts include supporting research to understand the causes, prevention, and treatment of CHDs. National and regional registries help track outcomes and identify areas for improvement. 8. Prevention Strategies: Public health policies focus on prevention strategies such as promoting maternal health, addressing risk factors like diabetes and obesity, and minimizing exposure to harmful substances during pregnancy. By addressing these aspects, public health initiatives aim to reduce the incidence and impact of congenital heart defects, improve patient outcomes, and ensure comprehensive support for affected individuals and their families. #who #heart #congenitalheartdefects #health #healthcare #prevention #awareness

“#Frailty is one of the biggest problems for older women, and learning what can be done to prevent that is essential.” In the recent study of older seniors in Ottawa, 1 in 3 reported symptoms of frailty. And if institutionalized, almost all seniors were frail. Frailty and poor oral health go hand in hand. Importantly, inflammation in the mouth is predictive of becoming frail. https://lnkd.in/dnvHxin7 Poor oral health in later life can be managed suitably and feasibly with #Prevora. It is painless, quick, can be delivered where seniors live or spend their time, and addresses the root cause of poor oral health (#dysbiosis).
