With the increasing demands for the transmission of electricity, data and communication between the individual train units, durability and a long service life have become a very important parameter when choosing cable protection systems.
Therefore, the choice of material is crucial to ensure minimal maintenance and thus make it a good business case.

The ongoing fiscal year FY25 is likely to see significant addition of infrastructure to the interstate state transmission system (ISTS) network, according to an official report.
The newly-released “Rolling Plan: Interstate Transmission System 2028-29” by Central Transmission Utility of India Ltd (CTUIL) has estimated that a significant addition of transmission lines and substation capacity is likely in FY25, based on projects that are currently under construction.

He points out that with ACSS “you can easily design a new line—you can make the towers a little taller or put the tension a bit higher—you can get over the obstacles. But to go and re-conductor an existing line, that’s not easy.”
He also adds that “When reconductoring existing lines to expand capacity, a better option could be installing carbon-core conductors”, since “reconductoring existing lines with carbon-core conductors could allow going to higher temperatures without having to worry about sag constraints”

So, why is a new record depth to cable installation in the sea important? Well, if you want to connect two landmasses, undersea cables are the answer. And sometimes, the depth of the sea can be prohibitive…think between Italy and North Africa. Being able to reach new depths (and our Leonardo Da Vinci ship is designed reach 3,000m depth) opens new possibilities to bring even more renewables into the European energy network.
It might be under the sea and out of sight…but an important part of enabling the energy transition.
We are enthusiastic to announce the successful completion of the sea trial tests for the ultra-deep installation of a 500 kV HVDC MI1 cable at 2,150 m water depth. This is an industry record-breaking installation, as it is the first time an HVDC cable is laid at such a depth, setting new market standards.
The use of an innovative armoring solution that in water can be 50% lighter than steel, combined with the state-of-the-art Leonardo da Vinci cable-laying vessel, will enable the installation and maintenance of Terna SpA’s Tyrrhenian Link at a water depth of more than 2,000 meters, the deepest ever reached with a power cable.

Two companies get green light for world’s largest signalling project worth A$1.6bn
Engineering and construction firm DT Infrastructure and rolling stock and signalling specialist Alstom have won an A$1 billion (US$1.1 billion) deal to replace the existing signalling and train control systems in #Perth, #WesternAustralia.
It will be the world’s longest signalling project by route length and will feature Alstom’s Urbalis Communications-based Train Control (#CBTC) #technology installed by DT Infrastructure’s local workforce under a contract for the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia (PTA).
Once completed, the project will provide Perth with a 40% increase in network capacity.
The High Capacity Signalling project is part of the Metronet programme and secures 750 local jobs in Western Australia with a range of global Alstom and DT Infrastructure experts deploying internationally to Perth for the project.
DT Infrastructure chief executive officer, Darren Crichton said, “With several Metronet projects nearing completion, Perth’s upgraded rail network means residents and visitors are more connected than ever before. The High Capacity Signalling program will ensure that this capability is fully utilised, running more trains more often. We’re delighted to be working with Alstom to deliver this remarkable project, drawing on our extensive experience optimising and delivering improvements to passenger rail networks across Australia.”
