It's always a pleasure to write for Care Talk Magazine. In this month's issue I discuss the implications of a Care Quality Commission issued Notice of Proposal and how these should be approached by health and social care providers. The full issue, which this month focuses on cultivating wellbeing in social care, can be found here: bit.ly/3TCgT4x

😌 Working in health and social care can be demanding and unpredictable. That's why it is important to remain calm when challenging situations arise - and make sure you speak with your superior when anything that you can't control is about to happen. #AVCRecruit #Tips #Success #HealthAndSocialCare #AdultSocialCare

🌍 The Power of Community Engagement in Health 🌱 Community engagement plays a vital role in improving health outcomes and fostering stronger, healthier societies. Here’s how: 💬 Empowerment: Involving communities gives people a voice, empowering them to take charge of their own health and well-being. 👥 Better Understanding: Engagement allows health initiatives to be tailored to the specific needs, beliefs, and cultures of the community. 🤝 Trust & Collaboration: Building relationships between health professionals and the community leads to trust, cooperation, and long-lasting health improvements. 📈 Sustainable Impact: When communities are part of the decision-making process, health interventions are more effective and sustainable in the long run. Let’s build healthier communities together! 💪✨ #CommunityHealth #PublicHealth #HealthForAll #EngageForChange

The Five-Fold Commitment not only aligns with but also expands upon the aims of the Triple and Quadruple frameworks that have guided healthcare improvement over the last decade. The Triple Aim, developed by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), focused on three key objectives: 1. Enhancing patient experience. 2. Improving population health. 3. Reducing per capita costs of healthcare. The Quadruple Aim added a crucial fourth objective: 4. Improving the work life of healthcare providers. Excelsior Wellness takes these foundational goals a step further with our Five-Fold Commitment: 1. “We lose a sense of who we are unless we hear and see ourselves reflected back by others. If we don’t feel validated, our immune system breaks down, we get ill, and then we jam up the NHS.” – Lady Philippa Perry Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing highlights from our incredible speakers at the TALK FOR HEALTH House of Lords event. Today, I want to share insights from Lady Philippa Perry, who addressed the critical issue of loneliness and how Talk for Health combats it. Without human connections mirroring back to us, we lose a sense of who we are. This loss of identity can lead to serious mental health issues, physical illness, and increased pressure on the NHS. Talk for Health provides a vital solution to this issue by creating groups where individuals can freely talk, be genuinely heard, and feel validated. Philippa and I ran some of the first Talk for Health programmes together, and she testifies to the diverse communities it fosters and the impact it has on well-being. Talk for Health teaches speaking from your own perspective, active listening, and responding skills. In this video, Philippa takes us through OMNYSPA, a framework I developed to teach laypersons how to respond using language therapists use. It includes: O: Open Questions M: Mirroring N: Noticing Y: Your Own Feelings S: Speaker’s Feelings P: Perspectives A: Appreciations The skills taught in Talk for Health not only enhance communication but also build a sense of belonging, bringing together a hugely diverse community. As Lady Philippa highlighted, with 2,500 participants in our groups and events, we see people becoming happier, more confident, and significantly more connected. This interconnectedness not only reduces loneliness but also strengthens community resilience. We need to expand beyond North London, and that’s why we’re fundraising. Please support our Crowdfunder here: https://lnkd.in/dSQ7CT6P. Your contribution, no matter the size, can help us continue this essential work. Thank you to Lady Philippa Perry and to everyone supporting this ‘magical’ thing. If you can’t donate, please share this post or spread the word. Plus: I am available for paid speaker engagements to share what Talk for Health is, how it works, and provide a real experience of it – in groups small or large. It’s International Men’s Health Week This week aims to raise awareness of the information, services and treatments that men and boys can access for living healthier, longer and more fulfilling lives. The NHS have shared their ‘Can Do’ Challenge which highlights five things we can all do that are scientifically proven to better our wellbeing. The aim is to choose a different way to wellbeing each day of the week: * Connect = Connect with other people (e.g. call an old friend you haven’t in years) #connectmonday * Active = Be active by moving your body (e.g. go for a run/walk/swim/dance etc) #activetuesday * Notice = Take notice of the environment around you (e.g. turn off your phone for an hour) #noticewednesday * Discover = Learn something new (e.g. read a book you haven’t read before) #discoverthursday * Offer (or give) = Do something for someone else (e.g. volunteer for a local community group) #offerfriday The link to the NHS site on Men’s Health Week is in the comments below! #InternationalMensHealthWeek #MensHealthWeek #PrideMonth #june #awareness #awarenessdates #awarenessdays #communication #workplace #compassion #commpassion #selfcompassion #leadershipdevelopment
