Reflecting on two days of insightful conversation and shared wisdom at the Grantmakers of Kentucky Event!   Here are some insights and takeaways from our CEO, Tiffany Benjamin, on exploring innovative strategies and discussing the challenges and triumphs in grantmaking:   -A particularly impactful session was dedicated to Community Listening; Panelists shared how they build the ability to hear from the community before making funding decisions.   -Discussion revolving around the evaluation of strategies to ensure the voices of community are truly being heard. A cautionary tale was shared by a participant, highlighting the experience of a funder who devised a strong plan, only to have the strategy go unused because there had not been direct engagement with the families in the community.   -We also discussed that we now have fewer local connections to each other and we need to do more to come together to create spaces for people to convene.

At Forward Ability Support we are always looking at how we can improve outcomes for those that we support including supporting research into SCI and the associated conditions.

2024, we aspire to travel and trek more intensively, widen our community outreach and contribute as well as strengthen public discourse. All our work is drawn from a sense of belonging and purpose, peace, empathy and love we receive from our deep community bonding. This year, together with grassroots interventions and community stakeholders, local civic and professional leadership, we would diversify our work, integrate digital platforms effectively, focus on economics of scale, setting up of more independent rural enterprises and would advocate on direct access to information, markets and resources, and most importantly direct representation by people across all platforms. We shared the premise of our work and the reason behind community-led interventions - how these help discover and uplift individual voices. By the way of sharing many experiences working in communities, we expressed how a human condition varies with demographics, how important it is to look at a human situation, factoring other basic and necessary life dimensions as well. And, how with a stable source of family income, impact of vulnerability is reduced. Therefore, a social cause is better defined through public discourse, involving broader citizenry.

I want to share the news of another NSF awarded to us: Place-Based, Human-Centered Networks to Enhance Community Resilience and Equity. Collaborating with my Co-PI Katherine Idziorek, PhD, AICP and Stephen Wong, Ph.D. https://lnkd.in/gzDhZ2NV In this project, we will investigate the opportunities and challenges of implementing micro-mobility and resilience hubs in both a metropolitan coastal city (Seattle) and an inland suburban community (Stillwater, Oklahoma). We anticipate that the outcomes will endorse the use of micro-mobility to enhance social network connectivity, boost community cohesion and capacity, and strengthen both community and national resilience.
