Earthling / Albertan. Courageously optimistic about protecting our earth and its natural systems (she/her).
As it goes, “If you build a place people want to visit, you build a place where people want to live. If you build a place where people want to live, you’ll build a place where people want to work. If you build a place where people want to work, you’ll build a place where business needs to be.” -Maura Gast #tourismmatters #sustainabletourism #tourismweek

We are extremely proud to have worked in collaboration with other stakeholders that make up the visitor economy strategy group over the last year to represent ‘the industry’ and all of our members interests for this brand-new visitor economy strategy for our island. This is not a strategy just for tourism, not solely focused on attracting visitors to our island. This is a document that is about changing the way our greater industry is understood, the significant and important role that it plays within the greater economy of our island, and the importance that working in collaboration with a common goal of growth, and increasing confidence, will have on the quality of life for all islanders and the significance that this will play in supporting and growing all other industries on our island. Now the real work begins! We said at the first meeting of this group, that we had little desire to work on another document that was going to sit on the shelf and gather dust as they have done previously. If we were going to put in hundreds of hours, then the end result must be something that everyone in the industry can be proud of and get behind, a total mindset shift for all of our Government of Jersey and civil servants, and a moment of change for the future of our industry. It is now time for every single business that makes up our incredible industry to start to roll this out. It is time for us to grow our visitor economy so that we can all have a piece of a much bigger pie. We need to put behind us the days of on island competition within our industry and start to look at how working together and collectively growinga much bigger offering can have a positive impact for all of us. It is our priority now that numerous departments within Government, that all player role in the future of our industry, sign up and agree to deliver this strategy as a matter of priority. It is all well and good that our Department for the Economy has created, understands and supports the content of this document, however, without other ministers and other government departments also understanding the importance and agreeing to work in collaboration to deliver the goals, the job will take far longer and the positive impact that can be had will take a lot longer to experience. It’s a New Year, it’s a new strategy, it’s time for change and it’s time for a new visitor economy on our island.
A new Visitor Economy Strategy for Jersey has been published, setting out the long-term vision, goals and priorities that need to be addressed for the continuing success of the tourism and hospitality sectors in the Island. The strategy has been developed by the Government in partnership with the industry and other stakeholders and sets the vision for Jersey to be a “globally recognised, sustainable and enriching destination that Islanders are proud to share".
