6 of the client care team at Eastcott Vets, including myself have completed the Linnaeus ‘Dispensing Course.’ This was really useful and alot was learnt across the team in regards to different medications, where they should be kept and when they should be dispensed. Almost one month since our collaboration with PwC UK. Just a month ago, we brought together 5 local authorities, 30 care leavers, and ran a skills programme at PwC’s head office in London. This initial pilot has set the scene for how we can get the corporate world to open their doors, giving care leavers skills, opportunities, and the chance of real employment. Too often, care leavers transition out of care without the support they need, including employment opportunities. Organisations want to help and plug that gap, often they just don’t know how. At The Care Leaders we are taping into that corporate willingness, brokering real opportunities, and working to ensure care leavers have a chance to step into adulthood surrounded by people care and understand. Their childhoods might have been tough, but their futures don’t have to be. Keep following the work we’re doing in this area. And if you’re a local authority who wants to learn more about projects like this – just reach out. ✌️

Today, I came across a quote by Sir Keir Starmer, our new Prime Minster, that echoed deeply: "Different changes will be delivered at different speeds. I cannot pretend we are going to fix things overnight. I will have to make tough decisions and make them early. This is what being an EMS advocate and leader looks like. If you are a leader in EMS and you are not speaking with your elected officials then you are part of the problem. If you are a leader in EMS and you are not providing transparent reports about call volume and how you are funded to your elected officials, and the greater public as a whole, you are part of the problem. We need to have some honest and frank conversations as to why we are in this field and why we are doing what we do.
