Access is everything in pediatrics. If your patient's parent can't reach you, they don't have a trusted outlet to intelligently discuss what is going on with their child. If they can't discuss what is happening with their child, they have no way to ease their anxiety or concern for their child. If they cannot ease their anxiety, they will likely seek care in a higher cost of care facility (Urgent Care, ER, etc). There are options for removing these barriers that don't cost a ton of money, and that can ultimately save both the patient's family, the patient, and the practice time, money, and anxiety. Those can include a triage nurse line, evening and weekend hours, and more. Do you want to implement these solutions but don't know where to start? We are putting something together specifically for Pediatric practices - be the first to hear about it! - https://lnkd.in/eg5ttvhG

Did you know there are 900,000 children in the U.S. facing feeding issues? Out of those, 45,000 require intensive intervention, yet we have just 16 intensive feeding programs available! This shocking statistic comes from a recent report in the The Journal of Pediatrics that highlights the critical gap in care—especially with no programs in the Western U.S. As clinics increasingly integrate SLPs, OTs, and other specialists into their practices, feeding therapy must be included as an essential component of care—the demand is pressing and undeniable! At Focused Approach, we love collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive support for our clients. What is the most pressing need for specialized care at your clinic? And why is it feeding therapy? #FeedingTherapy #ABACollaboration #PediatricCare #FocusedApproach #JournalOfPediatrics https://lnkd.in/gyg3kvwM

Third-year pediatrics resident Arianna Sjamsu, D.O., knew residency was going to be challenging no matter where she matched. The “notoriously hard” phase of medical training has a reputation for long, grueling hours, Sjamsu said, and some institutions’ claims of prioritizing resident wellness lacked the framework she was looking for. “On the interview trail, a lot of places will try to sell you on their work-life balance,” Sjamsu said. “Something that stuck out to me at VCU was that they had a structure built for wellness, and that is giving us the tools to succeed when we’re the attending doctors.” Centered around resident resiliency, VCU School of Medicine’s pediatric residency program operates on a tandem schedule in which residents rotate every two weeks between inpatient and outpatient care, rather than the more typical four-week rotations. This schedule was specifically designed to meet Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s training standards while giving residents breaks between the long and strenuous hours that inpatient rotations require.
