Read our comment letter to the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) that outlines concerns with ICER's assessment of Iptacopan and Danicopan for Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (#PNH). "PIPC urges ICER to consider models that do not rely on quality-adjusted life years or equal value of life year gained measures in its studies. A model that allows for consideration of the complexity of a disease, the impact of treatment for different subpopulations, and the broader set of costs and savings for patients, medical and non-medical, would allow for a more accurate value assessment." #healthequity #valueassessment #healthcare #healthaccess #disabilityrights

Results of a study by the University of Mississippi Medical Center released just a couple of years ago showed that a remote patient monitoring (RPM) program can have a significant impact in reducing blood pressure in rural and low-income patients. "Our results show that home BP telemonitoring with remote hypertension management in a rural and low-income population is feasible and associated with significant BP reduction. In the study, more than 85% of enrolled participants completed the 6-month protocol with a 14.1 mm Hg mean reduction in systolic BP," a statement in the study said. Smart Meter offers a variety of cellular RPM™ blood pressure monitors (https://hubs.ly/Q02y0m6v0) that are easy for patients to use and send the results immediately and securely to healthcare providers. All our monitors have superior accuracy and our iBloodPressure® Plus offers voice assistance and automatic cuff positioning detection. Dr. Marlies Wijsenbeek, EU-PFF Scientific Advisory Board Member, highlights gaps in oxygen therapy research for #PulmonaryFibrosis patients: "What the long-term benefits are? How much you should use? In which device? With which doses, and which patient category would benefit the most? Those are all things that are not researched." Can we do more to ensure equitable oxygen access and support research to enhance patient care? #PFMonth #OxygenAccess #BreathingLife #CurePF

While we could be inching closer to life without inhalers for millions. But such an innovative approach also raises key questions: 🔹 How soon could this realistically move to human trials and scale up production? 🔹 What hurdles need to be overcome in using engineered cells long-term for chronic conditions? 🔹 With asthma's varied triggers, could this be a one-size-fits-all cure? 🔹 How might healthcare systems price and provide access to such a groundbreaking therapy? We'd love to hear your perspectives - as medical professionals, researchers, patients, or industry experts. What implications could this breakthrough have, and what other considerations need to be addressed? Research from Tsinghua University in Beijing. #AsthmaCure #MedicalBreakthrough #HealthInnovation

Integrated Medicine (IM) was first defined in Italy in 2011 by SIOMI, aiming to combine conventional and complementary medicine for holistic patient care. Despite international confusion over its terminology and scepticism from some scientific communities, IM seeks to integrate – not reject – conventional treatment. IM, tested in Tuscany's public healthcare system since 2011, has shown improved quality of life and reduced side effects for chronically-ill patients. This model of integration, validated by several studies, deserves broad acceptance and application across Europe.
