ICYMI: Apple is partnering up with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into the upcoming iOS18. 5 years ago, this news would have dominated headlines in the tech world but today, it feels like just another push notification in a sea of partnerships making Silicon Valley seem like a dating app! For context, here are a few other such partnerships announced just in the last month: - OpenAI x Reddit, Inc. - Google x Reddit, Inc. - Stack Overflow x OpenAI - Microsoft x Mistral AI - Amazon x Anthropic AI - Microsoft x Inflection AI (unofficial acquisition) The acceleration in the AI race has led to so many collaborations amongst tech giants stemming from a need for unfettered access to training data, user bases, GPU capacity and more. In addition to this, there has been funding commitments of over $50 billion from VCs for AI startups since 2023, with nearly $8 billion in 2024 so far. So what inferences can be made about the AI industry? The Partnership on AI formed in 2016 posited a future for AI development that has sparingly been followed, with newer and bigger questions being raised about governance, compliance and legal interference. Although these partnerships are perhaps representative of a collective move forward towards achieving AGI, it is yet to be seen if the high market concentration of companies working on open source LLMs is a good or bad thing for the industry in the long run. What are your thoughts on this? #artificialintelligence #openai #apple #microsoft #reddit #google #vc

FYI: …”new ‘#Apple Intelligence’ AI strategy, a partnership with OpenAI, and a flurry of new AI integrations and features coming to #iOS18, #iPadOS, and #macOS 15.”… #StartLouis All: …The Rundown: Apple just kicked off its hotly-anticipated WWDC event, unveiling the company’s new ‘Apple Intelligence’ AI strategy, a partnership with OpenAI, and a flurry of new AI integrations and features coming to iOS 18, iPadOS, and macOS 15. Siri Upgrades A next-gen Siri will converse more naturally, remember context across requests, and accomplish more complex tasks by better understanding both voice and text. Siri also gains ‘onscreen awareness’, with the ability to take actions and utilize on-device info to better tailor requests to the individual user. New AI Features New AI writing tools built into apps like Mail, Messages, and Notes will allow users to auto-generate and edit text. Mail will utilize AI to better organize and surface content in inboxes, while Notes and Phone gain new audio transcription and summarization capabilities. AI-crafted ‘Genmojis’ enable personalized text-to-image emojis, and a new "Image Playground" feature introduces an image generation tool from prompts. Photos get more conversational search abilities, the ability to create photo ‘stories’, and new editing tools. Privacy A focus of the AI reveal was privacy — with new features leveraging on-device processing when possible and Private Cloud Compute for more complex tasks. Private Cloud Compute (PCC) is Apple’s new intelligence system specifically for private AI processing on the cloud. The new AI features will be opt-in, so users will not be forced to adopt them. OpenAI Integration The OpenAI partnership will allow Siri to leverage ChatGPT/GPT-4o when needed for more complex questions. OpenAI’s blog also outlined additional ChatGPT tools like image generation and document understanding embedded into the new OS. Why it matters: Despite the hype, there weren’t any major surprises on Day 1. But an upgraded, more capable Siri integrated directly with ChatGPT will make the voice assistant actually useful — and onboard millions of users to the start of the on-device AI agent boom. Check out some of the best demo videos from WWDC here.”… _____

Apple Gains Insight into OpenAI with Observer Role Apple is set to take a non-voting observer role on the board of OpenAI, joining the ranks of Microsoft in gaining privileged insight into the AI start-up. This development follows an agreement to integrate ChatGPT into Apple devices, enhancing features like Siri as part of Apple's broader AI strategy. Key Points: - Board Representation: Phil Schiller, Apple's head of the App Store, will assume the observer role, attending board meetings without voting rights. - Strategic Integration: The partnership aims to incorporate #ChatGPT into Apple devices, launching a suite of AI features dubbed "Apple Intelligence" later this year. - Microsoft's Involvement: Microsoft, a significant backer of OpenAI with $13 billion invested, also holds a non-voting observer role and supports OpenAI with its cloud resources. - OpenAI Board Dynamics: Recent changes in OpenAI's board include the addition of industry leaders and the return of CEO Sam Altman after a brief ousting. - Regulatory Scrutiny: The collaboration between big tech and AI start-ups, like that of Apple and OpenAI, is under the lens of US antitrust regulators. The integration of ChatGPT into Apple devices marks a significant step in the tech giant's AI endeavors, positioning it alongside other major players in the competitive AI landscape. #AI #Apple #OpenAI #ChatGPT #TechNews #Innovation #Microsoft #ArtificialIntelligence #TechPartnerships #Siri #AppleIntelligence #BigTech #Antitrust #PhilSchiller #TimCook #SamAltman

Google is on rented land on the desktop this will make the race to consumer generative AI & search disruption even more interesting. Google is so used to be dominant, that for the first time, Google is on the ropes a bit. On the desktop you have to open Chrome then go to Google.com. All of that is on Microsoft windows or Apple OS'es. This will let those 2 flex on Google in similar ways you see here, where Microsoft is using its desktop prominence and partnership with ChatGPT to give the best version of ChatGPT to people for free. If Microsoft can create value for customers to also use their Co-Pilot product on mobile, things will get really interesting. What do you think Apple is going to do to "flex" this muscle against Google. And boy is Google lucky they have such entrenched install bases with Android OS on the mobile. It's about to get fun. https://lnkd.in/eFeEfWKM

It's awesome to see Apple jumping on the OpenAI bandwagon! They're going to supercharge their whole ecosystem with OpenAI models. What's really cool is that Apple decided to adopt this tech instead of trying to reinvent the wheel and build their own AI model from scratch. Right now, it seems like there are two types of big tech companies: ✅ You've got companies like Google, Facebook, and OpenAI (plus Microsoft teaming up with OpenAI) going all-in on AI, focusing mainly on AI while letting other things run on autopilot. ✅ Then there are companies like Apple and StackOverflow, who are partnering with the first group and focusing on their niche—like Apple with its hardware and ecosystem. #apple #openai #partnership #bigtech
