As it enters its fourth year, the Community Trust in Rural Industries (CTRI) project continues to promote meaningful dialogue between Australia's rural industries and the community. 🤝🌾📊 With over 22,000 Australians contributing to the annual survey, the CTRI has amassed longitudinal data that is instrumental in building trust and understanding. Constituency focus: Newport West and Islwyn 🔎 📊Using our new data tool that looks at every constituency through the lens of economic geography we took a closer look at Newport. Explore the tool here 👉 https://loom.ly/xnWx7uQ 🪙Incomes in Newport West and Islwyn are typical of hinterland constituencies in England and Wales. 🛤️It resembles other hinterland constituencies in South Wales, such as Monmouthshire, Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend. 🚄Newport West and Islwyn benefits from proximity and good train connections to Cardiff. 🚗72.4 per cent of residents work in a city, one of the highest out of all hinterland constituencies in England and Wales, with many of these commuting to the Welsh capital. 👩💼To illustrate the importance of Cardiff to its fortunes, there are only two jobs for every three residents in the constituency, lower than the hinterland average. 🏥As in many former coalfield areas, health issues persist. Almost 7 per cent of residents are in bad or very bad health, higher than the England and Wales average. Understanding what households do to cope with challenges in meeting their basic needs should guide the design of the #humanitarian response. Based on extended interviews with households in #Khanfar district of the southern #Yemeni governorate of Abyan, we shed light on the extreme challenges they have in meeting their most basic needs. These challenges can almost exclusively be linked to unaffordability.
