Wanna know what's happening in #trustresearch? Pleased to present JTR's 14th issue (volume 1)! Here's what's inside... The issue opens with the new team's inaugural editorial. Joe Hamm, Lisa van der Werff, Amanda Isabel Osuna, Kirsimarja Blomqvist, Kwan-Lamar Blount-Hill, Nicole Gillespie, Ben Seyd, and Ed Tomlinson chart a path forward for the journal, centering a charge to capture the conversation of trust research. With that goal in mind, the editorial outlines new journal initiatives and directs authors to the foundational perspectives, key questions, and journal priorities they need position their work against what’s known and draw out their unique contribution. In our journal’s first Target Article, Mangold takes up that charge in a critical review of #measurement in work on #trustinthemedia. Replicating previous work, the author leverages Item Response Theory to argue that #currency and #believability may not so much represent distinct dimensions of trustworthiness but rather distinguish among higher and lower levels of a unidimensional construct. Lalot and Griefnender’s commentary offers a perspective on Mangold’s Target Article that draws out its potential for expanding thought on the dimensionality of #ability, #benevolence, and #integrity, and of trust and #distrust. In particular, they call for work exploring the possibility that, rather than truly distinct dimensions, some of the plethora of trust-related constructs may, in fact, measure different levels of a single construct. Yogev explores #dialogic #legitimacy in the relationship between the police and the Haredi community in Israel. The paper outlines the series of social shifts that appear to have been critical for moving from a challenging relationship to higher levels of #trustinthepolice. Schepisi, Gjoneska, Mari, Panasiti, Porciello, and Imhoff explore the implications of distinct types of trusting behaviors (and thus, distinct #vulnerabilities) in a study that leverages #gametheory. They find that actions that create monetary risk broaden the number of trustees whose relationships relate to the trustor’s belief in conspiracy theories while risking sensitive information restricts it. Hughes explores the failure of the confidence-building measures in #internationalrelations. They argue that the failure of these Confidence- (and Security-) Building Measures was rooted in a focused belief that security is best fostered by #control which, instead, undermined trust. The org design word of the month is "Equifinality." Have you heard of this and what does it mean to you and the work you do? The main principle is that in open systems, a given end state can be reached by many potential means. Also, it can mean that a goal can be reached in many ways. The term and concept is due to Hans Driesch, the developmental biologist, later applied by Ludwig von Bertalanffy, the founder of general systems theory, and by William T. Powers, the founder of perceptual control theory. Additionally, there are resources like the Practitioner Toolkit, recommended books, and job opportunities for organization design professionals. Qualitative studies are often context-bound to single sites, but what happens if we need to include more than one site to strengthen transferability? How philosophically/ methodologically congruent will this be with the traditional qualitative methodologies? Pushing the boundaries further, our recent methodological paper argues that rather than merely a method, the multi-centre qualitative design can be a distinct methodology within the broader qualitative research tradition. How so? Its pragmatic nature, focus on the world as "experienced and perceived", and methodical flexibility set it apart. Full-text version here (open access): https://lnkd.in/g9h3U2f4

Two years after first proposing the article, 'Soul Searching: Between Jung and Deleuze', it is finally published. Editor, Greg Seigworth and reviewers were amazingly generous helping me get this up to a decent standard. When writing Urban Roar I touched on this subject in relationship to sound studies, but in this paper I get to dive deep into the subject, exploring the concept of soul in and around the works of these two great thinkers. If this sort of thing interests you, you can find it here along with a range of other interesting papers working with affect theory...
