A year ago, I took a big risk and joined Thena as a 23 year old with no real job description except "figuring things out" for Mike Molinet. ⏩ Fast forward to 2024, and I'm now 24 but feel 50 (jokes jokes). In all seriousness though, there was no right way for me to prepare for a job like this. That's why I'm starting a weekly series to share what it's ACTUALLY like working in early stage tech as a young 20 something. It won't be a blueprint, in fact it'll be more along the lines of chaotic personal rants that somehow tell a story... but I'm hoping these stories can shed some light on what this path is actually like for those looking to do the same. Couple things I'll explore along the way ⬇ - What to do when you don't know what to do - Why you must continue networking outside of your office - Work/life balance (hah) - Big risks are necessary for big rewards And much more 👀 Going to kick this off next week and probably reach out to a dozen of you in my network for some ideas, but I hope this ends up being helpful for those young bucks out there thinking about a similar journey. Let's see how this goes 🤝

Career Storyteller ► Crafting interview-winning executive CVs/Resumes and LinkedIn profiles ► Leading workshops to give participants the tools for job search success...✨Remember: Your dream job is looking for you!
Then and now: Comedian Sebastian Meniscalco….and author Steve Dalton (The 2-hour job search). Not together, but thinking along the same lines. This will make sense if you read to the end. 💡Emailing has changed in the short-attention-span age of smartphones & Twitter/X, says Dalton. And so we are constantly updating how we communicate, especially in our #jobsearch. For example, think about those outreach emails back then and now. The #2HourJob Search outlines the power of a 6-Point Email when writing to the type of contacts Steve Dalton calls “Boosters.” ⁉️Asking for favors is always awkward, especially of strangers. Back when we used to read much more text, it would have seemed rude to be so direct and write less than 75 words, as the author recommends in his 1st point. But just like including your postal address on a CV/resume is a waste of space (no one sends you a letter in an envelope anymore), Dalton aptly points out that times have changed: 📝“Lengthy outreach emails are a holdover from the envelope-and-stamp days when letters shorter than half a page might seem rude…” 🤔So think about it: How do you react when a message in your inbox takes up much more than your smartphone screen? “…the ‘kitchen sink’ approach of including lots of information you want the recipient to know and hoping enough of it is relevant to warrant a callback simply doesn’t work in the short-attention-span age of smartphones and Twitter.” 👉So, before you hit “send,” think of how you would feel about receiving that same long message. ☀️ In the meantime, just because it’s summer and we need a break from the bombardment of work emails (hopefully all brief), I am leaving you with “Doorbell” video in which Sebastian Meniscalco nostalgically looks back on all we have lost in our in-person social interactions. Enjoy the clip, but remember: times have changed, so adjust your communication accordingly. #jobsearch #networking #executiveresumewriter ✨Wondering how to tell your career story so that the recruiter can understand your value proposition at a glance? If my math is right, I just finished my 500th interview for the Zenlytic team. One lesson I’ve taken away from it: In the early days, you have to work pretty hard to convince people to believe in what you’re building and join your team. Rightfully so. But if you do it “right”, that changes. Once you reach a certain level of excitement — talented people start coming to you. And it’s humbling. The fact that people believe in your mission so much that they want to make it their career means a lot. Now, that's Phase 1. When people want to join the mission. Phase 2 comes when people want to join an amazing team. Great people want to work with great people. So here's the lesson: how do you make that jump from Phase 1 to Phase 2? My biggest unlock is: stay lean. Phase 2 people don't look at the most talented/most passionate/greatest person to work with on the team - but rather the median. Small, high talent-density teams are usually more appealing to work for. Especially for the type of people who drive a Phase 2 flywheel. And yes - there are a bunch of really great folks out there who have shared a ton of passion for what we're building at Zenlytic that we haven't hired yet. You know who you are! 😛 Please know that we're still stoked, just literally trying to keep ourselves aggressively lean for the stage we're at. And we hope to move on y'all as we expand.
