Don't forget to RSVP for the opening of our First Nations Insights program for 2024 where we'll discuss what’s next for reconciliation and how we can redouble our efforts by centring First Nations’ voices and lived experiences, recognising and hearing truth telling, and naming and addressing racism. “Last year millions of Australians stood up to say that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people must be heard on our issues. That mission continues. Now more than ever, keep showing up and seeking out First Nations voices and perspectives,’ says Karen Mundine, CEO of Reconciliation Australia, who will be a guest on the panel alongside Prof Peter Anderson, Director Indigenous Research Unit at Griffith University, and Kate Russell, CEO, Supply Nation, in conversation with DCA CEO, Lisa Annese. Did you know half of the world's population is under 30, according to the United Nations? In Canada, youth represent 35% of people. Despite this, when it comes to discussing issues that matter to this population, young voices are often dismissed or denied. On August 12, we mark International Youth Day. We want to see children and youth be all they can be, and that means recognizing their leadership potential in our communities and championing their voices today and every day. #YouthDay #YouthEmpowerment #YouthVoices #YouthLeadership #YouthInAction #YouthForChange #NextGenLeaders #SupportYouth

Leymah Gbowee's words are a stark reminder of the devastating impact of war, particularly on young people. Too often, youth are both victims and agents of conflict. While they bear the brunt of violence, their voices are frequently silenced in peace building processes. This #InternationalYouthDay, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering young people as catalysts for change. Their energy, innovation, and resilience are essential in building peaceful and inclusive societies. We must create spaces for young people to participate meaningfully in decision-making, conflict prevention, and post-conflict reconstruction. Learn how our program, Sister-To-Sister aims to invest in youth leadership, mentorship, and education to equip young women all around the world with the skills and knowledge needed to address the root causes of conflict: https://lnkd.in/eF7hbcTF #YouthLeadership #InvestInYouth #FeministPeacebuilding #FeministMentorship #SisterToSister

At Oliver Scholars we build all of our programs around the foundational tenets of Leadership, Scholarship, and Service. And our scholars understand that courageous leadership sometimes means standing in the gap for those who cannot speak for themselves. No matter where our scholars stand on world issues, we want them to seek to understand the context and issues that shape their perspectives. The ability to test democratic principles when the risk to one’s livelihood and personhood should be relatively low is an important part of every education. My mother’s generation had civil rights and Vietnam. My generation fought apartheid. Others protested fossil fuels and anti-black racism. Whatever our scholars are taking a stand against, I hope the adults in their communities are creating the space for them to explore their ideals safely, respectfully, and with a deep abiding love for the possibilities that are deeply imbedded in our flawed, but marvelous democracy. Let’s not silence voices. Let’s use this moment to educate and dialogue with one another. #blackwomeninnonprofitsmatter #blackwomenlead #studentsmatter #thechildrenareourfuture
