Welcome to our channel! In this video, we are diving into the city planning spotlight currently shining on Minneapolis, particularly with the upcoming National Planning Conference, NPC24, taking place at the Minneapolis Convention Center from April 13-16. With approximately 4,000 attendees expected, this conference will bring together planners, experts, and thought leaders to discuss the latest trends and innovations in urban planning.
Minneapolis has been at the forefront of city planning ever since the release of Minneapolis 2040 in 2018, and this event will only intensify the spotlight on the city's growth and development. Our Planning Director Meg McMahan and her team have been actively involved in preparing for NPC24, collaborating with other City departments and community partners to showcase the best of what Minneapolis has to offer.
Throughout the conference, attendees will have the opportunity to explore sessions on various topics, including music history, repurposed churches, and inclusive economic recovery on Lake Street. Join us as we delve into Minneapolis's past, present, and future through the lens of city planning at NPC24.
Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more content on urban planning and city development. Thanks for watching!

The Darzi report is well worth a read. Many of us will be particularly interested in the capital funding issue(s), but the report covers so many more topics that the design and construction industry can help solve.
These are already well-known and understood. Let’s hope the outcome of the current NHP review starts to address at least some of these issues, and implement the current government’s manifesto pledge of “…delivering the New Hospitals Programme”.

In a perfect design world of 2024, consider a ring around your CBD hub (of say 3Km radius).
Add: public transport stations and multi-storey carparks scattered around that defined ring.
Add: speed limited and free eBikes, eScooters and eTrikes at these change points. This allows all the roads and pathways in that ring to become transit paths and people friendly, with parks, gardens and supporting inner-city unit complexes and social housing.
Add: for seniors and the disabled, trackless light trams/buses, free eTukTuks and electric wheelchairs.
Add: Limiting light eTrucks access to this area to only night operation.
Add: Mandatory 5 year reviews of the system and available technology.
Sad to think, that at my age, that there is still no long-term vision, plan or any will to execute.
So I dream on ..... knowing that politians are only interested in their next election campaign.
Our resident planning expert and CWPA MD, Joe Corr, recently joined Newstalk presenter Sean Moncrieff to discuss various planning topics. They covered the process of lodging planning applications, the importance of basing observations on planning criteria rather than personal objections, and the timing and duration of the application process. Joe also shared insights on strategic infrastructure developments, the appeals process, and judicial reviews.
