𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁: 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝗸. Walsh's Niall Hicks and Rory Martin (Senior Architect from Architype), recently visited the newly opened Mulberry Academy London Dock to speak to students during their morning assembly. They shared insights into the design process and answered thoughtful questions about construction challenges and solutions. With Year 7 students currently designing and modelling their dream school, we hope the talk further fueled their creativity. Niall said: "𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲. 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲." London Dock's STEM Club is keen to hold workshops demonstrating how theoretical concepts translate into real-world applications. We’re excited to continue engaging with students and showing how their ideas can shape the future. 👉 Check out the case study about our work on this project: https://lnkd.in/etvutsyf, or speak to Garreth Joyce or Niall Hicks. #SocialValue #STEM #InspiringFutureGenerations

As the School Leader of #LehmanYABC, I am proud to highlight the impact of our Home Improvement Class in empowering non-traditional students with hands-on skills and opening doors to meaningful post-secondary opportunities. At Lehman YABC, we set ourselves apart by ensuring that urban students are not only surrounded by the best educators, like the talented Anthony Cerini but also immersed in real-world learning experiences that inspire confidence and success. Recently, our students took on an exciting challenge: crafting bench seats from a single 2x4x10 piece of wood. This project, inspired by TheRhabLife @youtube designs, taught our students practical woodworking skills, problem-solving, and creativity. Beyond building a functional piece of furniture, they learned the value of creating something uniquely their own, with the opportunity to personalize their pieces through colors and stains. This is just one example of how Lehman YABC is preparing our students for bright futures, whether in trades, higher education, or entrepreneurship. By providing exposure to innovative experiences like these, we help ensure our students are equipped to thrive in any path they choose. Thank you to our incredible educators at #LehmanYABC and partner #CBO EastSide House Inc who make this possible! Together, we’re shaping futures one project at a time. #homeimprovement #EducationMatters #CBOsMATTER #ALLWEDOISWIN #CareerReadiness #postsecondarysuccess #therehablife #youtube #ChangeTheNatrative

NBBJ Design’s Westmark School is Designed for Learning Differences. The global firm’s Los Angeles–based studio worked with landscape architects SWA to create an education space dedicated to both physical and emotional well-being. The lower school campus of the Westmark School, a private academy in Encino, California, dedicated to supporting students with learning differences, is a model for charting a new direction. Not just for educational architecture, but for any type of building. Embracing research in neuroscience, education, and architecture, the facility addresses learning challenges from top to bottom, from incorporating nature and natural materials to encouraging multi-sensory learning to limiting stressors like excess noise and clutter. https://lnkd.in/eqz8ApSP

Can you believe it's time for going back to #school? Many of our #Houston area districts are back in session or go back this week, and it made us pause to think how we can help #inspire #students... and hopefully the ways in which we already have. The truth is that each of these young people are already inspired, inspiring, and intrinsically have their own unique talents and purposes. It's our job - as construction industry professionals and [many of us] as parents - to give them the space and tools to develop the gifts they already have. One of the ways we currently make that happen is by assisting with open space design. This Kwik-Wall operable wall gives the same space the opportunity to serve two functions at the same time, and the markerboard finish makes it a functional space for instruction and creativity. Ultimately, this piece was an investment by Humble ISD leadership and parents in their children's futures, and we couldn't be more #proud to have been a part of it. If you're looking for new #flexible space solutions, give us a call at 713-781-3287 to learn how we can help with designing, installing, and servicing the products that make your #education spaces work. #FoodForThought #WhatWeveBeenBuilding #BackToSchool #K12 #Education #OpWall #Architects #Construction

Schools (K-12) are arguably the most important building type we create. They represent not only institutions for learning, but they help to define the communities they serve. It's important to build them right. If you're in the Portland, Oregon area, this in-person learning opportunity is not to be missed. #SchoolConstruction #ResilientDesign #Schools
I am very excited to announce an upcoming symposium on September 27th at the historic McMenamins Kennedy School. This one day event is focused on K-12 school construction in Oregon. We all want healthy and safe buildings for our students and educators, and that starts early in the planning process. Join us for a day of connecting and learning about sustainable and resilient school design! Inspiring Minds: Creating Resilient & Responsible Educational Spaces https://lnkd.in/gB7UrRnH

NEWS: University of Tennessee Opens Agriculture and Natural Resources Building -- The University of Tennessee opened the $93 million Agriculture and Natural Resources Building in Knoxville in August of 2024. The four-story, 161,862-gsf facility provides the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources with both interdisciplinary and specialized lab environments for teaching, research, and public service. Designed by Barber McMurry Architects and Lord Aeck Sargent, the four-story development includes 25 labs, 11 flexible classrooms, lecture halls, and offices. Informal interaction and knowledge exchange is enhanced by activated corridors with numerous collaboration nodes. The highly adaptable and modular structure features a 500-seat auditorium that can be easily subdivided for smaller group sizes. This multifunctional space leverages movable furniture to host academic functions during the day and informal gatherings on evenings and weekends. An expansive commons area with food service opens onto a welcoming pedestrian plaza. Topped by a green roof encircled by research gardens, the sustainable facility provides space for the U.S. Forest Inventory and Analysis program, as well as new offices and classrooms for the UT Institute of Agriculture. A seamless learning community is created through connections to existing buildings on all levels. Christman Constructors, Inc. was the general contractor for the project, which broke ground in spring of 2021. https://lnkd.in/e7ih8k-d #HigherEducation #LaboratoryTeaching #LaboratoryResearch #EducationClassroom #EducationFacultyOffice #Auditorium #InterdisciplinaryResearch #Collaboration #Sustainability
