Chronic pain is difficult at any age. But for kids recovering from chemotherapy or a car accident, pain is especially heartbreaking. Recently, we teamed with UCSF Health to create a one-of-a-kind pain management clinic, where the design itself is part of the healing process. The spring issue of NAIOP’s Development Magazine features an in-depth article on The Future Lab, a global survey of scientists conducted by NBBJ and The New York Academy of Sciences. One of the key insights of the survey, which focuses on what scientists want and need in their research buildings, is the surprisingly consensus around sustainability. College towns are special—a unique blend of energy, culture and community. Which is why the University of Utah’s vision for transforming its campus over the next decade centers around creating “college town magic.”   NBBJ in collaboration with Architectural Nexus partnered with the University of Utah on a campus-wide planning process that included engagement of campus stakeholders and outreach to university neighbors to develop concepts for the U’s campus of the future. Ideas include transforming campus from commuter-focused to residential, centering student life and “college town magic” at the southeast corner of campus, innovating sustainable transportation and parking solutions to ease access to campus and moving the Jon M. Huntsman Center. On March 11, trustees approved the Campus Physical Development Framework for planning a campus of the future that will match President Taylor Randall’s audacious growth goals. vivo is LIT! 💡 Last week marked an exciting milestone for the vivo Headquarters in Shenzhen, China—the main facade lighting test was conducted in anticipation of the project’s scheduled completion this summer.  After extensive mock-ups and meticulous coordination, our NBBJ team was able to achieve a stunning balance, subtly highlighting the facade while maintaining a clean, glare-free interior experience.  Overlooking Qianhai Bay, the vivo HQ will serve as a defining feature of the evolving Greater Bay Area skyline, linking Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau.  Thank you to our facade consultants, Inhabit, for the photos.  #nbbjdesign #construction #underconstruction #facade #lighting

Designed to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, the proposed National Light monument, designed by NBBJ | ESI Design in Philadelphia, PA, aims be such an experience—a reminder of the past, but also a testament to a future that allows all voices to be heard. The interactive monument encourages visitors to contribute unique voice messages that are translated to a 360-degree light show and symphony, creating a collective dialogue representative of the diverse voices that make up our nation. Animated patterns echo the musical tones playing throughout the space.
