Macy's backstage is poorly executed. If Macy's is going to be in the "value" off price channel, it needs to improve the value equation, merchandise this area much better and perhaps build stand alone "value" off price stores. Off price business is not about unwanted clearance. It needs a strategy, focus and commitment.

The current culture has created what is okay in terms of branding and merchandising, the stores are a mess. - I would have looked for an outside hire.

Is Macy’s going to push to return to the era where department stores had real customer service? Or will they continue with the “vendor life support” model of extorting their vendors with predatory margin arrangements? If you feel success is independent of your suppliers and customers, you will continue down the path to the dustbin of history. I wish this CEO the best of success, but if his board doesn’t get it, neither will he.
