Live in the #WashingtonDC area? Want to learn more about the first #DemocracyFestival in the #DC region, and how you or your organization can be involved? Join Learning Life for our next #DMV #Democracy #Festival planning meeting tonight/Tuesday, July 9, 8:00-9:30pm ET, via this Zoom: https://lnkd.in/ei7tMUpy More about DemFest below. BE PART OF THE DMV DEMOCRACY FESTIVAL Dance, flowers, marijuana, beer and wine all get #festivals. If democracy is so important to Americans, why don’t we have democracy festivals every year in towns and cities across the country? If Washington DC is the capital of our country, and democracy is central to American freedom, why do we have folk, kite flying, and cherry blossom festivals, but no democracy festival? In this election year, with democracy at stake, Learning Life, a DC-based nonprofit, is organizing the first DMV Democracy Festival or DemFest, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 19. We’re aiming for a festival with a range of engaging activities for youth and adults, including arts performances, exhibits, game rooms, workshops, round-chair discussions, a youth citizen assembly on mental health, and a democracy market. More about DemFest here: https://lnkd.in/dQNq2T6B If you and/or your organization would like to be involved in DemFest in any of the above or other ways, please fill out our brief DemFest Partner Survey now: https://lnkd.in/eB7WPDyg We'll then email you updates, including info on Zoom and in-person planning meetings upcoming you can attend to get details, ask questions, and figure out how you and/or your organization can be involved. If you'd just like to attend DemFest in Oct, and want updates, RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/eMFqBMXa

Customized training and coaching options that are fun and relevant so busy business and school leaders can grow their teams and attract new people | DISC Consultant | Leadership Team Coach | Keynote Speaker | Trainer
Are you a thermostat? I helped with ticket sales at my kids’ show choir competition this weekend. It’s a large fundraiser with hundreds of students and thousands of spectators. When you interact with those thousands of spectators, you begin to identify the people who’ll complain about parking and whine about ticket prices. You also know who’s going to greet you and thank you for your help. How? Their face. Their body language. Their nonverbals communicate attitude long before they even say a word. It’s a bit of a leadership cliché, but it’s a cliché for a reason – you can be either a thermometer or a thermostat. A thermometer reports the temperature; a thermostat changes it. If you’re a thermometer, you react to your environment. If you can’t find parking and get flustered having shell out $15 to watch your sophomore sing for 15 minutes, you reflect frustration and negativity. If you’re a thermostat, you change your environment. While you face the same parking issues and prices as other patrons, you choose a good attitude because you know a negative one doesn’t change anything. The best leaders are thermostats. How can you be a thermostat today? For you, Brian

Great article from the Wall Street Journal about Gen Z and their obsession with Vintage Music and Cassettes. Does this mean we get to donate our cassette collections or sell them on Ebay? Or do we buy old cassette tape players so we can have a vintage dance party? Or do send out the cassettes for digitization? So many options. Halley Wolowiec, LMHC and were just talking about this conundrum as we clear out our storage units and get to choose which objects that no longer serve us. Leonard Friess are you able to repair this type of old technology as well? I know that you're skilled at repairing new media art from the 1960s such as artworks by Korean artist Nam June Paik (1932-2006). #genz #vintage #organization #lifestyle #ebay #donation #vintage #technology #storage #downsizing https://lnkd.in/e4Z_Cdid
