Mate, pronounced MAH-teh, is a caffeine-rich infusion made from the dried leaves of the yerba mate plant. It's enjoyed hot and is traditionally sipped through a metal straw (bombilla) from a variety of containers, including hollowed-out gourds (calabash) and cups made from "palo santo" wood or even ceramic and metal. Cultural Significance In countries like Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and parts of Brazil (where it is called chimarrão), mate is a cornerstone of social life. It’s common to see friends and family sharing mate, passing the gourd around in a circle, symbolizing unity and hospitality. 📌 Happy National Nougat Day! Why am I celebrating this day? Well, because it’s such a rich part of my culture. But, also…wait for it… Nougat is typically made by mixing egg whites together and adding honey or sugar, roasted nuts, and sometimes candied fruit. In Italy, they call it torrone. In Spain, a nougat is called turrón. Now, I’ll shamelessly HR tie it all together: Culture is critical, created and modeled by leadership! The buck stops there. Here is the recipe: 🥣 Mix everyone together (focus on making meaningful connections and create opportunities for that to happen – yes, get up and walk and talk to those in your charge, as a priority). 🍯 Add honey AND sugar (focus on taking care of each other; empathy and kindness goes a long way; just do right by your employees whatever that looks like). 🍉 Throw in some nuts and fruits for good measure (focus on supporting and developing your teams; ensure everyone feels heard and given opportunities at all levels). The oyster is your world! Wait. What? Isn’t the saying “the world is your oyster” Lauren? Well, yes, usually it is. But sometimes we get ourselves mixed up in the tiny little familiar space we’ve created for ourselves. Our little oyster. At one point, it felt fancy. I’m a VP! I’m on the executive team! I have a seat at the table! It felt like the world was your oyster. It felt like you’d found the best pearl inside. And then the shine of the pearl faded. The thrill of the promotion, the job, the money, the management responsibilities… …began to feel… …not so shiny. You got bogged down. Get it? Oysters? Bog? I’ll be here all week. And now you think, “Well, I’ve made it. The world is my oyster. Why does it feel so small? So overwhelming? So suffocating?” Because, friend. It’s not happening HOW you want it. You got WHAT you wanted, but it’s managing YOU instead of the other way around. The world was your oyster. Now the oyster is your world. Look, I know this post got a little *waves hands vaguely* and usually I’m not throwing idioms around like this. But here’s my point: The world can be your oyster again. You have to decide you don’t want to be in this shell anymore. You get to decide that you want more, better, cooler, more fun, more rewarding, than the oyster you got excited about however many years ago that was. You get to choose to shift yourself from the oyster you thought you wanted to the oyster you actually want. Like a hermit crab finding a new shell, but like, fancier. Because when you decide it’s time, the world actually IS your oyster. With nearly 17,000 hectares it is the largest wine-growing region in the country. Making wine in New Zealand means taking on a nature that is untamed and one that humans find hard to rival. And yet they succeed despite the problems of climate, the earthquakes and the ever-invading wild life.

A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE WITH FINNISH NYE TRADITION Have you tried it before? That's age-old custom: beeswax fortune telling, which brought me closer to a fascinating Finnish tradition. The process is pretty simple: melt a small piece of beeswax and then carefully pour it into a bowl of cold water. As the wax solidifies, it forms intriguing shapes, each a mystery to decipher. In the past, people used to melt tin, but sugar or beeswax are cheaper, safer, lead-free alternative with the same experience. My friends and I got: a horseshoe, an elephant and an Euro sign € 🐴 a horseshoe: A new job or a promotion ahead – a very lucky year 🐘: Great achievements and an adventurous year ahead There's no Euro sign 💶 in the traditional list. Then I decide to interpret this as a sign of money, wealth, and prosperity in 2024 😝 😜 😝 Stepping into the new year, I carry with me not only the positive omen of my beeswax but also a renewed sense of optimism and appreciation for the opportunities and efforts that lie ahead. #FinnishTraditions #CulturalExperience #FuturePredictions
