Don't get me wrong - targets are crucial to sustain businesses, salaries and employment.
But there's more value to an Optometrist than just how many glasses we sell.

Now not to say all workplaces are the same however I regularly get messages from once enthusiastic optometrists, graduate and pre-reg who feel deflated, pressured and undervalued.
Especially in this current climate when we are trying to encourage further education, upskilling the workforce and enhancing the profile of optometry as a first port of call healthcare service.
High conversion results in pats on the back, shoutouts in group chats and often some form of bonus too.
What about that optometrist who catches that retinal tear before it becomes a detachment?
What about that optometrist that removes a foreign body?
What about that optometrist who deals with those young patients often requiring cyclo that others avoid
What about the optometrist that takes the time to discuss a patient pathology with them because they're panicking and scared
What about a pre-reg who dealt with their first emergency case?
And much more...
There isn't a metric to measure any of the above so often goes missed without acknowledgement.

Even if you trust your Optical Assistant would've come to the same recommendation themselves, as an Optometrist your word holds more weight
And it allows your OA's to remind customers 'The Optometrist has recommended X' and explain why specifically they will benefit from your recommendation
We're more likely to purchase if we have a trusted recommendation and understand the benefits
