Alright Trond Hjorteland’s show of ✊ and 👋 (closed system vs open system) provided me with an aha moment regarding my recent reading of Thompson’s Organisations in Action. I learned that Thompson was foundational in organisation theory. He brought the two lines of thoughts of an organisation as a closed system and an organisation as an open system together. We need both thinking to optimise an organisation. An Open System interacts with the Environment. They both influence each other. They change each other. An organisation runs inside an environment, actually inside its Task Environment. Therefor, according to Thompson, an organisation is an open system at its boundaries with the environment. To optimise the workings of the organisation, it should be closed at the inside to shield the organisation off from the environment. => think abstractions NewCrafts Conferences #NewCrafts

And that's a wrap... After two full on days of plenaries, breakouts, networking and refreshments, the final #Sniffer conference is over. We have a lot to think about. The move from prevention to resilience is underway, and Scotland's first #NationalFloodResilienceStrategy will give that some direction. Funding will always be an issue, and people will have different ideas on engagement and priorities, but the will is there. Working together, I think we can achieve great things. #FloodResilience2025 #FR2025
