Getting hired by STUDENTS is a true ✨ highlight ✨ of our year! We were beyond honored to partner with the Rise Up Red Wing Youth Council and facilitate a Co-Design workshop for students and staff at Red Wing High School. (Shout out to Allegra Smisek for championing this work!) Our goal? To build the capacity for Red Wing staff and students to build power together while engaging in meaningful learning experiences and developing transferable 21st century skills. Sometimes for students, it may be intimidating to talk to adults in the “hierarchy” which we have talked about, but as this workshop progressed, the hierarchy diminished and allowed students to feel heard and in the same position as these educators. What is Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week? ●     Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week is a time to recognize, appreciate and advocate for those who work with young people during out-of-school hours.   Afterschool professionals deserve recognition, appreciation, and support for their work with kids, families, and communities.  ●      An estimated 7.8 million young people participate in afterschool programs yearly in the U.S.  ●      Over 850,000 afterschool professionals--those who work with children and youth during out-of-school time–are part of a highly skilled and valuable profession. However, they are often not recognized or appreciated for their essential work. ●      Research shows that afterschool professionals are the key to the program quality that mitigates risk factors and positively impacts youth outcomes.
