This is another project I’m really excited about. While it is quite true that I’m “easily excitable” (just ask anyone who works with me 😉) this one feels different for a few reasons: 1. Size- This is a 7MWdc single axis tracker (SAT) supplied by our friends over at Terrasmart with modules from Qcells North America, two companies leading the domestic renewable manufacturing resurgence in the US. This will be the largest ground mounted project in NH and only SAT in the state. It’s being installed on land which doesn’t have potential for housing, agriculture or really anything else useful and provides meaningful tax revenue to a rural town. 2. Customer- This is our first large scale project which will be owned by a NH utility, in this case Unitil. Utility ownership of a project of this scale in NH (we have roughly 1.5% solar penetration) is a major milestone for our little state and we appreciate Until’s commitment to providing low cost solar energy to residents. By siting this array on low value land adjacent to an existing substation, we are able to minimize interconnection costs and maximize energy value to ratepayers. That’s a high value proposition for all involved. 3. System Performance- Super psyched to build our first really big SAT. This technology allows us to better match the solar production to NH demand curves, particularly in the afternoon and evening by shifting panels West. We will see additional production gains from the bi-facial backsheets allowing us to take advantage of the albedo (fancy word for reflection) of sunlight reflecting off the ground onto the back sheet of 11,000+ solar modules. Anyone who has ever squinted on a snowy, sunny, NH day knows this is no small factor! 4. Partnerships- This is a massive project which required years of work and collaboration between the utility, PUC, multiple local & state permitting agencies, an excellent civil & environmental engineering firm TFMoran and (of course) the solar development, engineering & construction pros at ReVision Energy. Big things take big teams, and we have an incredible project group here. Can’t wait to share construction progress photos later this summer. Now the fun part starts! #solar #utility #construction
We're building a 5 MW array for Unitil. Made up of 11,232 solar panels, it will be the largest of its kind in New Hampshire. In addition to reducing carbon emissions, this array will provide ample savings for Unitil ratepayers, generating 9.7 million kWh of energy in its first year of service. “The new array reflects Unitil’s long-term goals of addressing the region’s climate objectives in a way that’s cost-effective, sustainable and provides direct benefits to all customers. We look forward to partnering on this project with ReVision Energy, which brings with it 20 years of award-winning experience in the solar industry here in New England.” —Alec O'Meara, External Affairs Director, Unitil Solar Power World has the full story: https://lnkd.in/eCG2SNwg #UtilitySolar #LargescaleSolar #SolarForNH #NewHampshire #NHBiz

Some fantastic figures from the Clean Energy Council's latest Rooftop Solar and Storage Report released today, not least of all that rooftop solar capacity will eclipse that of Australia's entire fleet of black and brown coal-fired power stations by Christmas. Even with a slower economy, Australian households and businesses are flocking to rooftop solar in droves, to lower their electricity bills, as technology costs and payback periods continue to fall. It's the gift that keeps on giving the whole year. #cleanenergy #rooftopsolar #renewables

A solar farm of this size can support ~1,463,942 EVs annually, assuming an average annual mileage of 13,000 miles per vehicle and an energy consumption of 0.32 kWh/mile. This calculation is based on the hypothetical/unrealistic premise that the solar farm's entire power output is dedicated solely to charging EVs. But that's not the point. The point here is large-scale solar projects can transform the transportation sector and help us reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. There is no shortage of 200k acres in the US, we can totally build a similar project. https://lnkd.in/emq-wn9G
