The Sims isn’t like other video games. Instead of inviting players to explore faraway fantasy lands or fight in imagined battlefields, the world of The Sims hews closer to reality. But for a subset of players, it’s not just a game. They’re using it to practice for their real lives. Madelyn House first designed her greenhouse business, Prairie House Gardens, in The Sims. “The Sims lets you be imaginative and lets creativity flow in a way that's hard to do in real life,” she said. The virtual legwork paid off and her real-life plant business doubled its sales in two years. Here’s how nine people used The Sims to inspire their real lives. https://wapo.st/4bB9SIu

There is a push to be first in everything, from life to Monopoly. We're supposed to win, right? Well, we have to determine what a win is, because in each moment, most of us are playing thousands of games simultaneously. Short games like making breakfast on time for work, or long games like saving up for retirement. We don't win by just moving pieces forward, we're playing 3D games where going up, down, backwards, diagonally all move us toward winning one of these games. Don't limit your successes by what is a traditional win. We determine the games we play, so we can choose how we win.

What is it about Board (and Card) Games? Why are Monopoly and Cluedo so successful? One is about mortgages and the other about cold-blooded murder. They don’t sound promising! BUT everyone feels familiar with them and loves them. So, when it comes to using board games on management topics, you’ve got a head start. 1. They provide a safe and familiar environment to encourage discussion and reflection on key learning topics. 2. They focus attention. Everyone’s gaze is fixed literally on a central point on the board (or cards) and you never know what’s coming up next – which makes discussion of sensitive topics and ideas easier. 3. You - as Facilitator – put out the boards or cards and let the game do the work leaving you free to observe the teams ready for the Debrief. 4. They are engaging and fun to do! We have some great board games as well as ‘card’ discussion games that focus on key issues. https://lnkd.in/eAZHxBcw #traininggames #learninganddevelopment #learnbydoing

Fascinating chart. Of course Mario is one of the oldest, most beloved, and best selling games game IPs, so its a bit of an outlier. But clearly as time goes on, video game based movies have trended better. We've finally hit our Iron Man moment. This chart will look differently when you add Five Nights and if there were a way to reflect Last of Us. https://lnkd.in/gTkgsseu

One of the things that we get asked a lot is to develop simulations of different games. This allows someone to understand how likely they are to win these games based on a particular initial state. It also can help balancing a game so it's not extremely favorable for someone based on initial conditions. In this example model, we have a variation of Baccarat, which is a game often played at casinos. Here we select a number of cards present on the deck and the first card the player gets. After running a simulation 1000 times with the same initial conditions, you can see who is more likely to win. The same idea can work for any game that you want to analyze. https://lnkd.in/dpYBY8-2

(Part 48-A): The next several pictures are featuring screenshot stills from another one of my absolute favorite video games "Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age Of Heroes", originally released as a coin-operated arcade game during the early Winter of 2000. Capcom developed this game to be a directly connected continuation sequel of "Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash Of Super Heroes" which essentially made this iteration the 4th installment in the "Marvel vs. Capcom" series while being overall the 6th fighting styled game to feature Marvel Comics characters. This time around more specifically a vastly larger roster were utilized in the continuing, ongoing crossover storyline consisting of a mixture of newer and older characters from both Capcom's video game franchises and comic book series published by Marvel Comics. Was then eventually made available for play on home video game consoles such as the Sega Dreamcast shortly thereafter starting in the Spring of 2000. #marvelvscapcom2newageofheroes #marvelcomics #capcom #segadreamcast

We need to be honest with each other about something: five years is a trend Considering only brand-new games released each year (excluding remakes, remasters, re-releases, or ports), there is an undeniable pattern of critical acclaim for role-playing games. Here are the rankings for each year, considering all titles on non-mobile platforms: 2023: 1st - Baldur's Gate 3 3rd - Diablo IV 2022: 1st - Elden Ring 2021: 1st - Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker 2019: 1st - Disco Elysium It's time to admit it: the years 2019 to 2023 belonged, more than any other genre, to ROLE-PLAYING GAMES. It fills me with joy to see that the niche nerd titles in my co-favorite genre (tied with adventure games) have become the most highly praised experiences around
