The standard requires a certain percentage of manufacturers’ vehicles to meet certain carbon dioxide intensity metrics that ramp up from model years 2027 to 2032. The new transition timeline sets the heaviest vocational vehicles, which includes refuse haulers, on a path to reduce emissions 30% more than the previous rule by 2032 by setting a more stringent intensity requirement. https://lnkd.in/dag3pBjb

I sure hope discussions about end of life options for EV match the same veracity as the discussions to move towards electrifying fleets. Recovery rates and recycling infrastructure for lithium ion batteries are currently subpar at best. Why we aren’t considering net zero biofuels as a transitional solution is beyond me. They’re drop in ready and wouldn’t need as much capital investment in new equipment like EV does. WM makes a valid point about their natural gas strategy as well. My gut tells me that our politicians have portfolios heavily invested in EV.
