Sunday, March 10th, marked the start of Ramadan until April 8th, and we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge this time for our colleagues who follow this sacred tradition. Ramadan is a time of reflection and spiritual growth for Muslims around the world. During this month, individuals fast from dawn until sunset, engage in prayer, and practice acts of charity and kindness. Here are a few ways we can show our respect and solidarity: Show understanding: Recognise that fasting may affect energy levels and that people may have different needs during this time. Let's be patient, understanding, and supportive of one another throughout the month. Support: Offer words of encouragement; a simple gesture of kindness can go a long way in making that person feel valued. Celebrate diversity: Embrace the diversity of our team by learning more about Ramadan. Let's use this month to celebrate the richness of our diverse community; together, we can create an inclusive and supportive work environment! No Ordinary Hospitality Management

At the onset of the holy month of Ramadan, I extend heartfelt wishes of love, peace, and blessings to everyone ❤️ In response to questions from some friends, I wanted to provide a concise summary for non-Muslim colleagues and managers to understand the significance of Ramadan and ways to foster a culture of diversity and inclusion for colleagues observing the holy month. 1. The holy month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, marks the revelation of the Quran, and is a cornerstone of Muslim life. Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, not optional or a nice to have - with few exceptions( sickness, long travel , women during their cycles or recovering from delivery ). 2. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn till sunset (12-14 hours on average and can be longer in summer ), refraining from food, drink, smoking, and other physical needs. Fasting is not only an exercise in self-discipline but also a means of cultivating empathy for the less fortunate and deepening spiritual connection. It teaches self-control over desires and encourages reflection on one's relationship with God and others. Key practices during Ramadan include fasting, increased prayers (mainly at night), Quranic recitation, charity, self-improvement, and community fellowship. ➡️ How can you support during Ramadan: For companies operating in countries observing Ramadan, adjustments to the working schedule, such as reducing hours ( usually 6 hours), and recognizing Eid-Al Fitr as a public holiday are common practices. However, for countries not observing Ramadan, here are a few tips to colleagues and managers of others: 1. Offer flexible meeting times to accommodate prayer and fasting schedules (e.g., Fasting in winter or early spring months can end at 5:30 PM ), so please be mindful of their need to leave on time. 2. Acknowledge potential energy fluctuations and optimize meeting efficiency (the shorter and more efficient, the better). 3. Be mindful of fasting colleagues when it comes to eating/drinking in a face-to-face meeting. 4. Encourage the team to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with family by providing 1-2 days off by the end of Ramadan. 5. A dinner outing to break fast together on Iftar would be greatly appreciated during a team building or business event. With approximately 1.9 billion Muslims worldwide, nearly a quarter of the world's population observes Ramadan. During this holy month, Muslims of all ages and backgrounds come together to fast from dawn to sunset, engage in increased prayers, read the Quran, perform acts of charity, and reflect on their spirituality. The practices and customs of Ramadan may vary across different cultures and regions, but the core essence of devotion, self-discipline, and community spirit remains universal among Muslims worldwide. As Ramadan begins, we want to share some valuable tips for our fellow Small and Medium-sized Businesses to foster an inclusive and respectful environment for all. Let’s make this month a positive experience for everyone: For Your Workplace: ➡ Flexible Hours: Consider offering flexible work schedules to accommodate fasting employees. ➡ Quiet Spaces: Designate a quiet area for prayer breaks to support employees during this special time. ➡ Understanding & Support: Foster a culture of understanding and support among your team. Educate everyone about the significance of Ramadan. ➡ Thoughtful Events: If hosting any events, be mindful of fasting hours and dietary preferences. ➡ Encourage Rest:Acknowledge the physical demands of fasting. Encourage breaks and rest as needed. For Your Customers: ➡ Extended Hours: If feasible, extend your business hours to accommodate customers’ needs during Ramadan. ➡ Respectful Interactions: Use respectful greetings such as “Ramadan Mubarak” or “Ramadan Kareem” when interacting with customers. ➡ Timely Deliveries: For deliveries, ensure prompt and respectful service, especially during Iftar time. Avoid Asking About Fasting: Be mindful not to inquire about the difficulty of fasting, as it can be personal and sensitive. Ramadan Kareem to all 🌙 We thank two of our colleagues, Aadam Patel, and Aafiyah Mullan, for sharing what Ramadan means to them as the holy month begins. As part of our ‘Belonging at Bellrock’ series we celebrate religious and national observances that are important to our colleagues and that align with our strategy for diversity, equity, and inclusion. As part of this series, we’ve consulted with colleagues on how we can accommodate colleagues in the workplace during Ramadan. What is Ramadan?   Ramadan is a sacred month in the Islamic calendar, marked by fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. It is a time when Muslims around the world observe a dawn-to-dusk fast, refraining from food, drink, and worldly desires. Beyond abstaining from physical needs. Ramadan is a period of spiritual purification, self-discipline, and deepening one's connection with God. It is an opportunity for believers to strengthen their faith, seek forgiveness, and engage in acts of charity and compassion. Ramadan is a time of immense blessings and rewards, fostering unity, empathy, and gratitude within the Muslim community. When is Ramadan? The first day of fasting for Ramadan 2024 is Monday 11th March. Ramadan typically lasts for 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the moon, which marks the beginning and end of the month. The lunar calendar followed by Muslims is shorter than the Gregorian calendar, causing Ramadan to occur approximately 10 to 12 days earlier each year. How can we accommodate colleagues?   - Having an allocated room for staff who need to pray within working hours in the month of Ramadan and outside of it too. - Allowing flexibility in start and finish times to the working day. - Consider flexibility to the hybrid working model to allow for more remote working. - Avoid scheduling meetings around breaking fast time to allow colleagues to break their fast and eat. - Be prepared to receive, and where possible accept, holiday requests for certain periods of Ramadan and for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. #Ramadan #Bellrockbelonging

5️⃣ Beneficial habits you should NOT leave after Ramadan 👇 Alhamdulilah Ramadan has left us for this year and will return next year, hopefully for us to be it’s honourable guests. I have collated 5 habits I believe are important to make sure to maintain after this Ramadan before the next one awaits us. 🕔 Salah: Not only is this the minimum but consistently engaging in the 5 Salawat, maintaining our connection that had been established during Ramadan. 🎗️Generosity: Continue to practice generosity by giving to those in need, whether through charity or acts of kindness. 💆♂️ Self-discipline: Sustain self-discipline in various aspects of life, including controlling impulses and managing time effectively. 🙏 Gratitude: Cultivate a mindset of gratitude by regularly acknowledging and appreciating the barakah in your life. 📝 Patience: Practice patience and forbearance in dealing with challenges and conflicts.
