More than a billion people daily confront the hazards, dangers, and inconveniences that come with not having access to a reliable, safe toilet.
Carlos Batarda, our Global Advisor for WASH Market Systems Development, explains our work in supporting sanitation entrepreneurs in Malawi and Uganda to help change these numbers: https://lnkd.in/gyhFGAv3#sanitation#watercrisis#entrepreneurs
🌍💧Today, on #WorldWaterDay, we're reminded of the urgent need for sustainable solutions to address the global water crisis.
At responsAbility, we believe in supporting innovative ventures that make a tangible difference, and Jibu Inc. is a shining example.🌟🚰
Their business model empowers local entrepreneurs in South-East Africa to provide access to safe drinking water and other necessities.💧
This not only addresses a critical need but also fosters economic empowerment one community at a time.👥
Let's join hands to support initiatives like Jibu on World Water Day and beyond, because access to #cleanwater is a fundamental human right.💧
Together, we can make a difference.🌍

Ethiopia's #Sanitation Challenge: Empowering Local #Masons to Overcome
Imagine #Fikru, a skilled mason in rural/pre-urban #Ethiopia. Fikru dreams of a community where every household has a proper toilet, but a few things hold him back.
First, Fikru and his fellow masons lack a strong masons' #association. They can't speak with one voice to improve working conditions or get access to good quality materials like cement and iron bars at fair prices. It's like trying to build a strong house without a foundation!
Second, there's no #standardized#training program specifically designed for sanitation work. Fikru learned from his uncle, but others might have learned different techniques. This inconsistency means toilets aren't always built to the same high standard, and some households might miss out on the benefits of proper sanitation.
Third, Fikru is a great builder, but running a #business is another story. Many masons lack the #business#skills and #entrepreneurial#mindset to expand their services and reach more people. It's like having all the tools to build a house, but not knowing how to run a successful construction company.
Finally, getting the #money needed to buy tools, materials, and even additional #training can be a struggle. Without access to #loans or grants, Fikru's dream of reaching more communities with sanitation solutions stays just that - a dream.
But there is hope! By #working#together, we can empower Fikru and Ethiopia's other sanitation heroes. Imagine a future where masons have strong associations, standardized training, and the business skills to thrive. With better access to finance, they can invest in their businesses and reach every corner of Ethiopia, creating a healthier future for all.
