Inspiration from US Water Alliance CEO Mami Hara as we close out the first-ever U.S. WASH convening in Washington, D.C. "Solving for the nation’s water access issues defies any silver bullet or work at just one scale. All the sectors are needed, desperately, to effect a cultural transformation, where the primacy of this essential need is centered culturally. And, the needs and the potential of the communities that are most impacted by the lack of water infrastructure and water access are centered as well. On Thursday, attendees advocated at the Capital for the WASH Access Data Collection Act, which would make sure comprehensive data is available to address the needs of ALL Americans. Freshwater recently collaborated with Clean River Partners, the University of Minnesota and other local organizations to gather input from 190 Minnesota residents about their thoughts on drinking water. This will help inform the Minnesota Drinking Water Action Plan being developed by the Minnesota Department of Health. Here are some key insights: 💧Approximately two-thirds of participants supported the development of new state drinking water standards for Minnesota, which would be stricter than federal standards. 💧A majority of respondents expressed trust in their tap water. However, approximately 20 percent of survey participants expressed distrust in their tap water, with the most common concerns being contaminants, chemicals and water hardness. 💧When doing statewide community engagement, it is imperative to collaborate with local partners who can reach specific communities and provide cultural context. 💧Emphasizing cultural sensitivity and awareness, respecting the distinct needs of tribal partners, attending to the diversity of languages spoken, and prioritizing communication accessibility are all vital practices when engaging community members. Why do Municipalities large and small all suffer from a lack of funding from the UCP government? Is Innisfail and Olds caught up in an attack on the large municipalities? Record population inflow continues to pressure the Infrastructure in these Municipalities. When oil royalty revenue and exports reach all time highs, why does the UCP raise taxes and mistreat citizens living in our cities and towns?
📢📢📢 ADVOCACY ||| Provincial cuts impact every municipality in Alberta, but are especially challenging in Edmonton. The provincial government needs to consider Edmonton’s unique circumstances and ensure our city receives equitable funding to support our growth. As Mayor, Amarjeet Sohi has been busy expressing the City's needs to our government partners through letters, calls and numerous meetings. From the farmlands of BC to the homes in our cities, climate change is reshaping our lives. It affects how we grow our food, where we live, and how we stay safe during extreme weather. It reveals and exacerbates existing injustices, disproportionately impacting communities. But there is hope. Through advocacy, community support, and policy change, we can address these challenges. We can build more resilient food systems, ensure access to safe and affordable housing, and help ensure the safety of all our neighbours. #WorldDayofSocialJustice Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gYGfHpUJ

🎗 September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and we recognize the crucial need for justice for families affected by the BP oil spill. This environmental disaster has had profound health impacts, especially on children in affected communities. 👨👩👧👦 As we raise awareness about childhood cancer, let’s also demand accountability and support for those impacted by the spill. Affected families must receive the justice and resources they need to address and overcome these challenges. ⚖ Together, we can work towards a future where no child suffers from diseases linked to environmental disasters. ✊ #childhoodcancerawareness #cancerawareness #childhoodcancer #justice #bp #oilspill #LegalSupport #law #personalinjury #attorney #TheDownsLawGroup

The issue of sextortion in accessing clean water, as highlighted in the recent post, is both shocking and deeply distressing. It's unacceptable that in the quest for such a basic need, individuals, particularly women and girls, are subjected to this type of exploitation. This is not merely a local problem but a global crisis that calls for our immediate and concerted action. We need a multi-faceted approach to tackle this issue effectively. Beyond the call for stronger policies and better enforcement, it is crucial to support victims, increase public awareness, and work with international partners. Investing in infrastructure and ensuring that communities are educated and empowered to stand against such exploitation are key steps in addressing this crisis. Access to water should never come with conditions of abuse. Let’s come together to create a world where water is a right accessible to all, free from exploitation and fear. 💧🌍 #WaterForAll #EndSextortion #HumanRights #GlobalAction
🌊🚫 Condemning Sextortion in Water Accessibility🚫🌊 Today, I feel compelled to address a horrifying reality that many communities in Kenya 🇰🇪 and Africa at large face : the unsettling rise of sextortion as a barrier to accessing clean water. It is inconceivable that in our quest for basic human rights, our mothers, wives and girls are forced to make unimaginable choices, compromising their dignity and safety. Water is a fundamental human need, yet for too many, access is contingent on threats and exploitation. This is not just a local issue; it is a global crisis that demands our urgent attention and collective action. I urge all responsible agencies, non-profits, and government bodies to take a firm stand against this abhorrent practice. We need stronger policies, better enforcement, and comprehensive education to empower communities to fight back against exploitation. Together, we can ensure that access to water is a right, not a privilege, and that no individual ever has to face the horrors of sextortion. Let’s collaborate to create safe, sustainable, and equitable solutions for water accessibility everywhere. We've been discussing the root causes of hunger, and our role in addressing them. Among the ways we address the root causes of hunger is a commitment to shifting the narrative from an individual problem to a systemic one. Shifting the narrative can help our community more clearly see that effectively addressing the barriers to food access is dependent on policy and structural change. Let’s face it, ending hunger is a big job, and it’s going to take all of us working together.
