Part six! The WaterborneTP transport sector has many different ship types and services. In the context of the WATERBORNE TRANSPORT lasting INNOVATION project, the six ship types of the Partnership on Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport formed the basis for activities. What would be missing from European lives without these ship types. The sixth and final leaflet in this series concerns offshore vessels. #HorizonEurope #EUPartnerships

Survey results from the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping indicate that a significant portion of the #maritime community is open to operating and working with ammonia-fueled vessels. These findings highlight #ammonia’s emerging status as a #futurefuel for the industry. As awareness, safety protocols, and regulations continue to evolve, ammonia's potential to drive #decarbonization in the sector becomes increasingly promising. Safety and Environmental Engineer managing risk and driving business improvement in high hazard industries
Very exciting to share the first speaker at the 'industry first' event, Enviro Risk Exchange on October 3rd in Aberdeen! Neil Mackay, CEng MIMechE of STATS Group will present an offshore technology developed to isolate hydrocarbon pipelines in need of maintenance that has been deployed for the first time on the National Gas Transmission system. STATS piggable isolation plug sealed the pressurised 48” pipeline (56 km long / 55 bar) allowing a joint to be replaced and welded. The use of the plug prevented the pipeline from being vented and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 95% compared to venting the pipeline to atmosphere. This technology is perfectly aligned with the the ethos of the event; an innovation which supports environmental resilience through emissions reduction that can be used across multiple high hazard industries. 🌐Visit www.enviroriskexchange.com for the latest event news and ticketing information #enviroriskexchange #environmentalresilience #environmentalimprovement #sustainability #emissionsreduction #pollutionprevention

Up next at #RUKPV24, RenewableUK's Head of Skills Scott Young FIEP leads session B4: Nurturing the offshore wind marine industry skills landscape, alongside Scarlett Black, Head of Programmes at Maritime UK, Will Rowley, CEO Offshore Solutions Group, Gry Hallås Maritime Legal Counsel at Fugro and Norman Skillen General Manager UK & Ireland at Jan De Nul Group. The panel explored industry skills issues such as: • How can the UK support the next generation of key roles such as port managers from backgrounds reflective of ports' target markets, as well as specific skills needed for floating wind (fabrication, welding)? • What are the implications of immigration and visas in the context of vessel crews? • How can Celtic Sea offshore wind projects ensure there will be a local readily available pool of labour that exists in Scotland for the North Sea projects? • How can the industry tap into school leavers and bring experience from other industries more effectively? #RUKPV24 #newcastle #ports #vessels #offshorewind

“Fit for (sustainable) future: #Onshorepowersupply gaining ground in European #ports “ July 16, 2024, - Naida Hakirevic Prevljak “Ports in Europe are increasingly implementing #shorepower projects in an effort to stay ahead of the global #decarbonization game and comply with #EUregulations .” “Shore power, #shoresideelectricity , #coldironing , and #shoretoshippower are terms used in relation to ships connecting directly to power sources on shore. Shore power systems are mostly #gridconnected , however, there are also mobile configurations.” “While in port, #vessels use their #auxiliaryengines to #produceelectricity . With the use of an onshore power supply that allows ship engines to be switched off, #emissions from ships’ engines can be eliminated. In addition, shore power helps #reducenoise , #vibration and #airpollution resulting from the use of #fossilfuels by #ships .” “A 2022 feasibility study by Aberdeen Harbour found that #greenshorepower could #reduceemissions in ports by more than 90% as well as minimize #noise and air pollution levels. When shore power facility is completely supplied by #greenelectricity , the #GHGemissions reduction could be around 100%.” https://lnkd.in/eZGTpvrz Source- original post Read all my posts #MariusPreston
