Improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions are two of the most pressing issues facing the maritime and marine industry today, so we’re taking proactive, bold approaches in our efforts to be the UK’s first zero-emission port. One of our pioneering projects is Sea Change – the UK’s first multi-berth, multi-user, multi-frequency shore power system, which will help to decarbonise the industry and improve air quality in the city. Funded by the UK government through the Zero Emission Vessel and Infrastructure (ZEVI) competition, we’re working with Brittany Ferries and a consortium of academics, marine specialists and some of the country’s most exciting technology SMEs to deliver the project. Two new LNG/hybrid electric ferries will join the Brittany Ferries fleet from 2025, and from April onwards vessel operators will be able to plug in and turn off their engines while alongside, using electricity provided by a green tariff. Sea Change is one of the ways in which we’re working with partners to turn the port into a living laboratory, trialling ground-breaking technology that could make a real impact at ports and other industries across the globe. https://lnkd.in/g26tY79C

Part four! The WaterborneTP transport sector has many different ship types and services. In the context of the WATERBORNE TRANSPORT lasting INNOVATION project, the six ship types of the Partnership on Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport formed the basis for activities. What would be missing from European lives without these ship types. The fourth leaflet in this series concerns short sea ships. Curious for more, remain tuned. #HorizonEurope #EUPartnerships

The energy efficiency index for ships (EEXI) requirements introduced in 2023 and more recently the carbon intensity indicator (CII) and EU emissions trading system (EU ETS) force a reduction of the carbon emissions of ships. The first question that typically arises concerns the potential of retrofit solutions: What can be done on a vessel and what power/fuel savings to expect? MARIN proposes a cost-effective retrofit scan in which possible retrofit solutions are highlighted. Want to know more? Meet us at the SMM Hamburg, the International trade fair for Shipbuilding, machinery and marine technology. 📅 3 – 6 Sep. Meet us at stand B2.EG.320 to discuss the latest technologies we offer the shipbuilding industry.
