The CSO Q1 2024 Recorded Crime Report was recently released and at PhoneWatch we took a look at the figures for the last 12 months up until March 2024 and compiled an in-depth burglary report. In the report we compared the most recent data to the past 12 months to show the percentage rate of increase or decrease per Garda division. The data shows that nationally burglary rates are up 6% (9,806 burglaries) within this period, and 19 of the 28 Garda divisions have experienced an increase in burglaries. The increase in burglary incidents is a stark reminder of the importance of community awareness and individual action to safeguard homes and neighbourhoods. Although, it is reassuring to note that since pre-Covid times burglary and related offences fell from 16,410 in 2020 to 8,927 in 2021 which coincided with Public Health controls in place with Covid restrictions. As lockdown was lifted in 2022, the number of incidents rose to 9,257 and remained similar at 9,251 in 2023 before rising again to 9,806 incidents in the last 12 months in the latest report. We would like to see this upward trend reversing within the next 12 months, so that the annual number of burglaries decreases, and we can be safer in our homes and know that are families are better protected. Remember your home safety is all in your control, check out burglary rates along with handy safety tips in our full report here: https://lnkd.in/eZA9Mrdm

As #Prep24 comes to a close, we're shining a light on the state of local public health emergency preparedness. According to NACCHO research conducted with local health departments (LHDs) and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Units nationwide: 📊 LHDs are increasingly responding to public health emergency incidents. 📊 But, the time LHD staff have to dedicate to preparedness activities is decreasing. 📊 Some LHDs mobilize MRC volunteers to bolster their incident response capacity. 📊 This includes supporting disaster resilience — a capability some MRC Units have that can be better leveraged. Let us know in a comment about your local public health preparedness experience or ask a question about these data! #PublicHealth #Research

Health threats are like unpredictable storms. Health departments need to be prepared to face current and future health threats, which starts with infrastructure. For decades, the workforce and core systems of health departments have been underfunded. This has created a weak infrastructure that CDC is actively strengthening and repairing through the Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG). CDC’s PHIG has funded 107 health departments to improve the services, systems, and workforce that impact the health of communities around the country. https://bit.ly/3R4WG78
