Even in the places you least expect, we are facing a water crisis. A recent study from the University of Dundee finds that Scotland is increasingly vulnerable to water scarcity, the impacts of which are already being felt by the whisky industry, agriculture, and some local communities. This study also finds that most businesses either have no plans in place to manage the water risk faced, or such plans are insufficient. Industry in Scotland must build resilience to water risk and insecurity through inside and outside the fence action, collective action and water stewardship.

We’re excited to share RS Aqua Ltd is installing Innovasea’s environmental monitoring system, aquaEnvironment, to eight additional Loch Duart sites!   Now, operators at these locations will be able to leverage real-time data collected from the system to identify and proactively address environmental threats that could harm the health and well-being of their fish.   This ability to make data-driven decisions based on real-time water conditions allows farms to take a more active role in their operations. How much do we understand and embrace the concept of sustainability, which is addressed in line with strategies to prevent and reduce climate change and biodiversity loss, today's primary ecological crises, and tries to be implemented in all areas of social life globally? What actually is sustainability? This concept, discussed on many platforms, is defined within the ecological dimension, especially with "unnatural" methods such as construction and improvement of facilities for wastewater management, etc. In a world where we are moving away from nature and its ecosystem services, are artificial materials and methods the real solution? If the answer is yes, how far? Until there is not a single piece of land left that we define as natural or until we cannot afford the economic budget required to implement artificial solutions? Of course, new facilities where especially emerging artificial intelligence is integrated, etc. we need; but, couldn't the solution be to monitor each piece of nature and the holistic process between these pieces and try to adapt this process to wherever human hands touch? In this regard, what is gaining importance is the industrialization or naturalization of land uses with technological solutions. In this context, many urban and rural landscape projects and reclamation activities have been carried out globally from the past to the present and are continuing. A good example of this is the New York City Water Supply program and activities. It is possible to see how an urban design/landscape project can improve ecological, economic, and social sustainability. It is possible to see how nature repairs and develops itself and its environment if economic investments are made in nature/landscape. From this perspective, it becomes important to understand the importance of such projects and their stakeholders and to create a holistic environment by drawing attention to them in order to strengthen firstly the ecological, then economic and social pillars of sustainability. #sustainability #naturalsources #urbanlandscapeproject

There are thousands of water supplies providing drinking water to the public and hundreds of thousands more private water wells supplying water to millions of people in Michigan and millions more across the Great Lakes Region. Knowing and understanding the quality and quantity of the source is a critical first step in planning and developing sustainable approaches and managing our drinking water resources. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) presents this webinar series to highlight how agencies, communities, universities, local organizations, and citizens can promote and protect drinking water sources. A question-and-answer period will follow each presentation. This webinar series is provided through a collaborative partnership with EGLE, the Institute of Water Research at Michigan State University (IWRMSU), and the Michigan Rural Water Association (MRWA). More webinars will be added throughout the year.
