EPA’s post-2030 emissions targets for trucking are entirely unachievable due to the current state of available zero-emission technology, very limited heavy-duty charging and refueling infrastructure, and an unstable power grid. The symbiotic relationship between #commericalvehicle #charging and #infrastructure and the direct correlation to the adoption of passenger #EVs in the US cannot be understated. Nor can be the need for private-public partnerships to make a nationwide #EV #chargingnetwork a reality. Benefits range from #zeroemissions to #manufacturingcompetitiveness on a global scale. This is what innovation in the future business #ecosystem of moving people and things looks like. 👀 👇

This is important. The trucking industry affects every aspect of our lives. If they are pushed beyond their means to adapt to unrealistic emission regulations the trickle down effect will reach us all in one form or another. Yes, large corporations should be pushed to adapt and operate in a way that does not harm the environment but not in a timeframe that could negatively impact everything else including risk to consumer goods, prices and most importantly driver safety, etc.

Today, President Biden’s U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced final national pollution standards for passenger cars, light-duty trucks, and medium-duty vehicles for model years 2027 through 2032 and beyond. In response, CE4A Executive Director Andrew Reagan released the following statement:    “I applaud these rules, which will spur more job-creating, cost-saving, and pollution-cutting electric vehicles (EVs). More EVs are good for America’s consumers and workers. It’s that simple."   “The new light-duty vehicles emission standards from President Biden’s EPA will reduce energy costs, create more clean energy jobs, and keep the U.S. auto-industry as a leader worldwide."   “They’ll strengthen the environment, create more clean energy jobs while driving cost savings for communities across the country. There’s a lot to celebrate here, and we are celebrating.”

I didn’t hear one trucking leader in the room oppose steps toward a cleaner environment. The issue is the timeline and costs. What could be feasible for final mile on this timeline simply isn’t for OTR. The added weight of EVs will reduce carrying capacity, which will put more trucks on the road and increase wear and tear. Not to mention that the Highway Trust Fund is supported, in part, by diesel sales. There’s so much more to unpack here, like the financial burden to trucking companies, the implications for HOS, and more. No doubt, it needs to be figured out. The timeline just isn’t realistic.

This morning, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Office of Public Engagement and Environmental Education and the Office of Air and Radiation on the Agency announced the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles - Phase 3. We find ourselves at a critical juncture of needing to act boldly in order to slow the rate of climate change while also working with the private sector to make the transition affordable and feasible. The Gage Zero team is working to develop, own, and operate electric truck charging sites around the country to support this major shift to electric. Our multi-fleet hub approach allows fleets of all sizes – from large, national carriers to small, regional companies – to have access to reliable, conveniently-located charging for their medium- and heavy-duty trucks when and where they need it. Exciting times ahead! Thrilled to be a part of the effort toward the vision for a sustainable future. In alignment with the Port Authority's Net-Zero roadmap, continuing an ambitious project to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers across our facilities. This initiative is a cornerstone of our commitment to transition to a 100% electric agency light-duty vehicle fleet. ❗ Why is this important? My opinion: this is about more than cutting emissions. It's about setting an example and promoting sustainable choices broadly. With these chargers, we support our fleet's electrification and motivate our community towards eco-friendly decisions. ❓ What's next? My opinion: this effort is about innovation and commitment to future generations. As we progress, we're faced with challenges that require creative solutions, collaboration across various departments, and continuous engagement with our stakeholders. We're tackling challenges with creative solutions and teamwork, aiming not just to meet standards but to create new ones for sustainability.
