When you are part of an organization, you are not empowered to speak on behalf of that organization. This is a lesson I was taught after being issued my first set of uniforms as a ROTC cadet in college. It still applies. When you offer insight, lessons learned, or straight up opinions in a public forum, those words belong to you, not your employer. It’s worth sharing on LinkedIn, because while we may reflect the character of our places of employment, we do not speak for the employers themselves. >>> There’s a subtle detail here that’s worth recognizing, and if you’re not careful you’ll miss it. <<< 👉YOU👈 are accountable for what you say and do. You cannot weigh in for others without permission, or transfer that accountability. Regardless of your title. One caveat to this lesson: If you are a designated public spokesperson on a particular matter, then you have limited authority to speak on behalf of your org. Trust me, it’s not a fun job. Anyway, this is a friendly reminder if you’ve been taught this lesson before. And if you hadn’t been told, now you know. Stay classy out there. ❤️ Be Kind.

Getting into a blue collar skilled trade... As an apprentice, laborer, groundman... There a few important things to skills/traits to develop that will help you through out your entire career. One of these things is learning to take ownership/accountability for your mistakes and screw ups. We all make mistakes...but the important thing to do is to own up to those mistakes. Don't point fingers, don't act stupid... If you know you screwed up & it was your fault, own up to it!
