This is genuinely phenomenal & inspiring… a true clarion call. EVERYTHING that algorithms are not. Jack Conte, founder of Patreon, demolishes the gatekeeping, creative censorship and active strangulation of artistic discovery/reach by many platforms, especially Meta. Platforms that proactively hinder grass roots innovation/inspiration, the stuff that feeds, fuels and nurtures societies. It’s why funding for arts is always one of the first things to be cut by governments. Given the countless future trend reports that I’ve read of creator/user lead output leading the way in brand birth, loyalty, growth, and innovation (i.e. success), it’s in stark contrast to what the behemoth platform overlords are seemingly aiming for. There are elements of staggeringly ingenious individual guerrilla marketing in this presentation, that blow creative agencies out of the water. Every single supporter, effectively becomes an active mobile brand ambassador for you, possibly for life. That is nirvana for any brand. With the emergence of AI, and the infinite growth of creative applications that are enabling the democratisation of the creative process and distribution, a process that is ultimately used to connect with others, showing what unifies us all - a desire to share our stories. Everywhere I’ve been fortunate enough to work, I got to see, read about, and meet the people we were creating for. We were purely a vehicle/platform/world for their sincere LOVE of something to be shared. The life changing awe I saw in their eyes at a gig, screening or event, was no different to mine, and we would go on to tell anyone who would listen about it. https://lnkd.in/e_vBNgRF

A valuable talk about the state of creating engagement for creators of any form, it's history and where it's going. Side note, I had NO idea the founder of Patreon was the other half of Pomplamoose, which just makes my respect for both crank up at least 3 notches. I caught one of Pomplamoose's live shows at the Triple Door in Seattle and it was soooo much better than I'd expected it to be, which was already pretty high expectations. All the <3 for this duder. To me is another feather in the cap that when the leadership keeps directly involved with production, they are factors of scale more effective. If you're any kind of leader, you absolutely must stay actively involved in a production role of whatever your team is doing, and DO THE WORK. Write the design docs, make the art, sing the songs - or your not leading, your pushing from behind and can't see where your actually going. https://lnkd.in/dBFWb7EB

Three types of people love going to the bar: alcoholics, vegans, and lawyers. For a while now, I have been toying with the idea of how tools and techniques used by comedians and humorists can be used for other kinds of communication, from journalistic, behavioural change, knowledge transfer to anything. And with that came the question many have asked me: Can you actually *learn* to be funny?" If you're joining the DW Global Media Forum #GMF24 next week, you can answer that question for yourself. Come hang out at the Humor Bar at the "Media and Information Literacy Showroom" and gauge the potential for your comedy career in about 15 minutes. You will find me there... *in spirit*. (bar... spirit... get it?) It has been a thrill to develop something, as small as it is, for an audience as massive, diverse and GLOBAL as GMF's. My colleagues at DW Akademie (the Ukraine team, to be specific), along with GMK's #DigitalCheckNRW, have put together quite a showcase: a D&D-style fantasy storytelling adventure, a board game, MIL Jenga (whatever that is!), an escape room, and a DIY comedy workshop put together by yours truly, among others! Unfortunately, I will not make it to Bonn this time due to personal commitments, but I am excited to bits! If you do end up at the MIL Showroom, please let me know how you found it! TicketMaster of Disguise: Justice Department Sues Live Nation over Hidden Fees and Anti-Competitive Practices Last week, the United States Department of Justice filed an antitrust suit against Live Nation Entertainment and its subsidiary Ticketmaster, for anti-competitive activity in the live entertainment industry. Ticketmaster, often-reviled for its hidden fees and ticket scarcity, also exerts influence over performers, venues, and others in the live entertainment space. While the antitrust complaint alleges that Live Nation relies on unlawful conduct to maintain monopolistic control over the industry, at the cost of consumers and artists alike, it is yet to be seen whether the Attorney General can make such a showing. But that’s not all. Just days after initiation of the lawsuit in the Southern District of New York, Live Nation made a regulatory filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission confirming a significant data breach of sensitive consumer information entered on Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster users are cautioned to remain vigilant with their sensitive information, monitor credit card activity, and avoid any phishing attempts in the aftermath of the data breach, which Live Nation assures is unlikely to make a material impact on its own operations.
