Application Grated! Licensing lawyers face challenges everyday, some can be easily resolved others take a bit more effort and creativity. A client instructed to me apply for a Premises Licence for their beautiful Estate (sorry it wasn't Neuschwanstein Castle Alex Hutchings) to operate as an events space. The first event was scheduled with a very tight timeframe (29 days), so in the licensing world time was very much of the essence!! The application was submitted and all was looking well, until the application received objections from local residents on the final day of the consultation period. Working frantically with the client and receiving outstanding co-operation from the Licensing Authority, measures were agreed with the residents and the objections withdrawn. Whilst the negotiations were ongoing, creative contingencies were also being planned. Licence granted within hours of the event. The client's event could proceed and from all accounts went ahead swimmingly. One very happy (and relieved) client! I was absolutely delighted to get this application over the line for client and secure them a licence within their desired timeframe. I’ll be presenting at the Jersey Productivity Conference in a few weeks and I have a great process map to share which gives an insight into public sector waste and how it affects the social sector. The first step to change is realising what the process is and how much the waste costs. There is so much we can do if we have the data and the motivation to improve.
