If I were starting out as a first time Customer Success Manager today and wanted to accelerate as quickly as possible, I'd do this: Step 1: Know and deeply understand your product, Fast • This is the cornerstone to your development as a first time CSM. You haven't worked deeply in the weeds using a product before so you need to dedicate a lot of time to this skill. • Your client portfolio is waiting, but not forever. The faster you can know the foundation of your product the better Step 2: Get a mentor Most people skip this step entirely. But this is a huge mistake— Having a mentor or seeking out a mentor in your workplace can dramatically accelerate your career. If one isn't assigned to you, seek them out. Talk to people, do your homework and see who is 1-2 steps ahead of you to connect and learn from. Step 3: Make an impact with internal team members This isn't easy. But if you can do this, you will get: • brownie points from your boss and other colleagues • you'll be looked at as a leader • Making both external and internal dramatically pushes your comfort zone and zone of learning Don't skip this step. It took me 3 years to crystallize these steps—hope this helps. ____________________________________________ If you liked this content, I share similar success stories in long format in my newsletter: Day in the Life: CSM Please subscribe and share! How I maintain focus on this everybody's winning place (Without having burnout) 1. Acknowledge where I come from → When I decided building personal brand, I had in my mind the fact that it's a for life journey so only discipline and persistency wins, doesn't matter how long it will take... 2. Knowing who I am not yet (working on) → I am not an algo hacker: is being generic... → I am not a top personal brand on here yet… → I am not making 7k/month through LinkedIn… → My content is not generating 7+ inbounds/week… → I am not free to work whenever I want with who I want… → I don't have my calendly full booked for the next month... 3. I focus on continuous learning and self-improvement → I understood the fact that kept knowledge is worthless, so I learn & improve when I take the courage to teach others what I stand for through implementation not by gatekeeping it and, the incredible is the more I go deep into something the more I realize that I still a newbie and more effort is needed... What I want you to take here as lesson is that: → You have to get started anywhere... → You won't be ready for anything... → Stop compare yourself to others... → Don't expect external validation... → You only get better over time... P.S. How you stay calm on here with such winners...? Don't overthink it... Be You from Them

That's a wonderful analogy! A beginner's mindset in coaching, much like in art, encourages curiosity, openness, and a willingness to learn. It allows a coach, regardless of their level of experience, to approach each situation with fresh eyes, be more present, and remain adaptable. This mindset fosters growth in both the coach and the coachee, as it creates an environment where new ideas, techniques, and insights can emerge, unbound by rigid expectations or assumptions. It encourages continuous learning and development, key components in effective coaching.
☀️ As another week begins, an important reminder to remain open to new approaches. It's one of the best ways to continue learning and sharing with our colleagues and clients.

I interviewed over 20 PMMs in 2024, and here's what I can tell you: PMM careers do not run in a straight line. They are not one-size-fits-all. And there is not one ideal path for where a PMM can (or should) go. Luckily for me, one of the PMMs I sat down with this year was Yi Lin Pei. It's not a stretch to say Yi Lin is THE authority on PMM careers, so getting the chance to pick her brain was such a blast. I remember ending our interview and thinking "I want to completely re-think my career plan." Yi Lin just launched a tool to help PMMs do exactly that: The PMM Dream Job System. The PMM Dream Job System is a system that helps PMMs get clear on what kind of job they want and succeed in their search for that job. It includes: - 30 bite-sized lessons across 9 modules with trackers, guides, worksheets, and templates - Monthly live coaching calls, available till you get a job - Private Slack Community with 200 active alum and peers - Buddy system for accountability - Bonus interview & assignment Vault that you wont get anywhere else - Bonus PMM fundamentals masterclasses Yi Lin was kind enough to let me get a sneak peek at the program, and this program is worth it's weight in gold. If you are in the job market or are thinking about what your next PMM career steps might be, you should check it out. (link in comments!) If you buy it before midnight this Friday, it’s $300 off. 🤑

If I wanted to get my first PM role in 2024, here's what I'd do: 1. Be Hirable: This goes without saying but is still worth noting. The market gets more competitive by the day, so to stand out, you must really hone your skills. Know your stuff well. 2. Niche Down: General product knowledge doesn’t cut it anymore. Companies are looking for PMs with specific industry knowledge to better fit their business. I'd pick 2 or 3 niches and gain some foundational knowledge in those areas. (I am working on a learning resource guide for PMs, which includes links to key concepts in several industries—let me know if this is something you’d be interested in.) 3. Attend Product Conferences: I have seen people get their first roles through volunteering at product conferences or by attending and networking with senior PMs in the industry. While cold emailing online may work for some, I find that offline networking feels more natural. What other points would you add? Please share in the comments. P.S.: This doesn’t downplay the usual ways to get a job; rather, see these as more unconventional and fitting for the times.

You work hard, you deliver results, yet that promotion or recognition keeps going elsewhere. The culprit? You might not be effectively communicating your value to colleagues and managers. Here's why it matters: → Increased Visibility When you clearly showcase your contributions, you become top-of-mind for new opportunities. → Boost Confidence Owning your accomplishments builds self-belief and empowers you to negotiate effectively. → Greater Recognition Deserved praise and promotions come easier when your impact is understood. Most professionals are yet to realize that promotions and opportunities don’t knock on the doors of those who worked the hardest. They knock on those who advocate for themselves and are visible in the workplace. So if you’re feeling undervalued at work, then it's time to confidently communicate your worth! 🔗 My 10th LinkedIn Learning Course just launched to help you "Communicate Your Value with Confidence"! Check out my FREE 8-minute course here: https://lnkd.in/g7AP-vhR 📌 In celebration of my 10th course, I’m hosting a livestream on May 30th at 11 AM EST on this course topic with fellow LinkedIn Learning Instructors, Tiffany Uman and Jasmine Escalera, Ph.D. Save the date & watch on my LinkedIn Live!
