Keeping up with current affairs can be like Groundhog Day — that feeling of spending the rest of eternity in the same place and hearing the same people say the same things every day. Breaking the time/space doom loop seems to come down to finding an alternative headspace. That's one reason tuning into quality audio journalism can be such a powerful companion. And making Europe captivating again — that’s always been a goal of the EU Scream podcast. Our latest episode is on Gaza and the EU and yet so much more. Tony Connelly of RTE reaches back into Irish history and to his own family story to explore why Dublin is breaking with other EU capitals in recognising Palestine. Another omnipresent topic these days is the rise of the hard right. Many EU watchers have just about had their fill of catastrophizing about the likes of Orbán and Zemmour. But our episode with Stanley Pignal at The Economist on balancing the hard right's hateful rhetoric with rights to free speech may make the objective reasons for despair that little bit more manageable. Then there’s our Eurovision Song Contest episode, which goes way beyond the spandex, makeup and pyrotechnics we saw in Malmö. Dave Keating fashions a masterclass on the cultural footprints that France, Russia and Israel have left on the contest, and on Europe itself. Like what you hear? Leave us a rating or review. They really help keep our show on the road.

In DC, the Democratic Party just lost a lawsuit to prevent our citizens' initiative (Petition 83) from moving forward. In "red states" the Republican Party opposes our ballot campaigns, and in "purple states" BOTH parties oppose us! Makes you wonder ... Do the parties really represent "we the people," or only the party elite, the party base, party insiders and the politics industry? Join us, today, and help make voter-first reforms a reality!
Check out the 90-second video below. Our DC leader Lisa D. T. Rice does a great job of explaining how primary #elections are taxpayer-funded. So, it doesn't make any sense for private political parties to prevent independent #voters from voting. Lisa is a fellow, party-neutral reform warrior, and the the lead Proposer for the "Make All Votes Count DC" ballot campaign in DC -- Petition 83 -- for open primary elections and ranked-choice voting. Great work, Lisa -- Onward!

28 min debate. 3 discussants + host. (i used to watch al jazeera's 'inside story' program on the tele in the years that i was off-grid internet-wise. it's generally quite good. yet to watch this episode. ) https://lnkd.in/dHSwMRq8 #france #legislatives2024 ps: so watched this discussion. it's not so much a debate, as there are almost no parries and counter-parries among the discussants. some latest opinion polls cited, as well as anecdotal views.

My mini-break to the Byron hinterland was slightly marred by spending all of Sunday glued to my phone tracking the unfolding situation in the US following the attempted assassination of former President Trump. The motivations of the shooter appear to be more mixed than you might think and the impact on the election outcome is still TBD. However, we can be sure this has contributed to the increasing distrust of the democratic process in the US and increase the risk of political violence throughout this election cycle. I cannot recommend enough this podcast from our Global Insights team, which highlights impacts for different regions in the world. For us in Asia, obviously the US-China relationship is the 10,000 pound gorilla and sadly neither outcome is likely to improve that relationship.
