In honour of the Toronto Zoo celebrating its 50th anniversary we are featuring the new Orangutan Habitat as part of the celebration. Working with the Toronto Zoo has been a pleasure over the years, and we value the contributions we are able to make towards conservation, animal research, animal welfare, and community building as architects and designers. In addition to the recently completed Orangutan Habitat, we look forward to seeing the Toronto Zoo Community Conservation Centre develop in collaboration with the Toronto Zoo and University of Toronto Scarborough. The Toronto Zoo continues to have a bright future ahead and we cannot wait to see what they achieve as they support the next generations of conservationists and scientists. Our Orangutans of Gunung Leuser, Guardians of the Rainforest, Toronto Zoo project feature can be found on our website: https://lnkd.in/g-4A2XKK

We're really excited that this special wildlife trundl will support two important Wildlife Trusts in the UK: Sussex Wildlife Trust and Cheshire Wildlife Trust 🦋 🍃While they cover vastly different geographies, they inevitably share common challenges to the wildlife and environments they are both on a mission to nurture and protect. 🐝 🐾 According to the 2023 State of Nature Study, Great Britain is already classified as one of the world’s most nature-depleted countries. Nearly one in six of the more than ten thousand species assessed (16%) are at risk of being lost from Great Britain. 🌿 But, there is always room for a fight back and whether they are chalk-land meadows on the South Coast or heath and riverside meadow in Cheshire, meadows are invaluable habitats for plants, pollinators and animals that are vital to rebuild our bio-diversity. 💚 This is a cause that Cheshire Wildlife Trust and Sussex Wildlife Trust are passionate about as the UK has lost at least 97% of our wild meadows since the 1930s. 🦔 Sussex and Cheshire Wildlife Trusts have ambitious targets for restoring or creating meadows and we're delighted that our trundl will support their work 🌳 trundl will share more in the coming weeks about the similarities and differences, but BIG thanks to Sykes Holiday Cottages for supporting this trundl. Truly living up to their B Corp status and taking environmental responsibilities seriously. #wildlife #nature #environment #charitywalk #purposedrivenbusiness

Wade Crowfoot just curious when these structures are installed has thought gone into soil media to support vegetation growing on the installation? I ask because soil media can be amended with forest derived biochar. This would help to keep vegetation green longer, with less clay (weight) on the structure. Then there is the fact that using forest derived biochar can also reduce risk of ignition and spread of fire in the same habitat.
One of my favorite priorities to work on is wildlife crossings🐾, which help animals move safely across our lands and protect motorists. In an era of thorny environmental challenges, animal deaths from our roads is a fixable problem.💯 Wildlife crossings are a win-win solution🤝that help people & nature thrive together. This morning, I helped launch California Wildlife Reconnected🐾, a landmark public-private partnership to build more wildlife crossings. The incredible Beth Pratt and the National Wildlife Federation have brought together philanthropy & government to get more crossings built, more quickly. Which is critical to protect our renowned biodiversity in decades to come. This effort was inspired💡 by the largest wildlife crossing in the world that Caltrans is currently building outside of LA, thanks to the Annenberg Foundation, the Wildlife Conservation Board, and so many others. Excellent news though I do take issue with the idea that these beautiful lizards are 'common' they are anything but a true wonder of nature. Even in 1912 these lizards were not common throughout England - the majority of which has no lizards. They are widespread and can be locally abundant but are still cannot be considered as common in the status sense. Nor are they dull - a host of colours and patterns exist throughout their range with many colour morphs across their range. They have essentially anti freeze in their blood to prevent succumbing to ice and frost, they live in the coldest place in the Northern Hemisphere and to me are an ideal candidate as a bio indicator species for nature recovery in England. From rewilding to Biodiversity Net Gain this species will feature as they spread out from their countryside refuges - as the anthills, grass tussocks, bramble edges, woodland edges arise from nature recovery so will the numbers of lizards - recording them on the ground will provide the evidence as to whether the action is working over the next 30 to 40years. Report sightings via the Record Pool www.recordpool.org.uk
Congratulations to our friends at Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust. It's always wonderful to find conservation successes after some time, and is a great example of how difficult it can be to survey for our native reptile species - even the "common" ones. Just goes to show there's always hope. 🦎 https://lnkd.in/eWC-qW_x

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently approved Idaho Fish and Game’s revision of its State Wildlife Action Plan, which extends the plan for a decade and ensures Idaho will continue to receive about $700,000 annually in federal funding. The Wildlife Action Plan is for conserving and managing Idaho’s most at-risk fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats. For the first time, plant species were incorporated into the 2023 revision. #IdahoWildlife #StateWildlifeActionPlan #IdahoFishAndGame #WildlifePlan
