Bringing wildlife back - for everyone, everywhere

About us

Cheshire Wildlife Trusts works across Cheshire West & Chester, Cheshire East, Halton, Stockport, Trafford, Tameside, Warrington and Wirral. We have 43 nature reserves covering around 500ha - more than half the size of Delamere Forest. Our reserves include habitats ranging from sand dunes to reedbeds, woodlands and wet meadows and some of the north west's most threatened peatlands and mosslands. We have over 12,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who regularly support our work, along with more than 60 of the region's leading companies who make a regular commitment to the Trust as Corporate Supporters. Our most ambitious conservation scheme - A Living Landscape, is already underway across the Gowy & Mersey Washlands, as we bring landowners and local communities together across more than 8,000ha of Cheshire countryside to link up the pieces of the wildlife habitat jigsaw for the future.

Earlier this year Natalie, one of our Senior Living Landscape Officers coordinated the creation of three new ponds and several open ditches into the small reedbed at Hockenhull Platts. Previously the reedbed sat quite dry and these crucial areas of standing open water will provide habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. 🌿💧 Dragonflies have already been spotted visiting the ponds, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact on local wildlife going forwards! ✨

Last week Helsby Hillside’s Year 3 children joined our Wilder Education session leaders Sally and Amy in West Kirby. They explored the beach, searched for fascinating shore creatures, and identified birds while soaking up the stunning sand dune habitat at Red Rock Nature Reserve. They also spent time noticing natural and human made coastal features and used compasses to make their own maps in the sand. 🌊✨

Last week we completed our 90-mile #BigWildWalk! From the Dee Estuary shore, to the top of Shining Tor, we teamed up and covered the width of Cheshire! We passed 13 of our nature reserves along the way, full beautiful autumnal colour, wildlife and fabulous fungi. 🥾🍂🍄 Thank you so much to those who have sponsored our walk. You can still donate and help us protect these beautiful wild spaces. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eMwVef4c

Lost (and found) keys 🔑, falling in the mud 🥾and a few grazes from an overgrown holly bush 🌲 - but we did it! 💪 They'll no doubt be a few sore muscles and feet in the morning, but we had such a laugh together walking across the beautiful region of Cheshire, 90 miles from Hoylake shore to Shining Tor! 🌊➡️🏔️ Thank you again to everyone that's already sponsored Cheshire's Big Wild Walk. 👏 Our walk today supports our mission to restore and protect at least 30% of land and sea for nature in Cheshire by 2030. All the money raised will go towards protecting nature, wildlife and wild spaces across Cheshire, Halton, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Warrington and Wirral. Please sponsor us if you're able. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eMwVef4c #BigWildWalk
